Aldi has joined forces with the mental health charity PANDAS Foundation to introduce mental health messaging on its baby wipes, offering practical advice to parents and caregivers during the early stages of parenthood. The Mamia Sensitive and Extra Sensitive baby wipes now include information about common signs of perinatal mental illness, such as low mood, anxiety, and tearfulness, along with contact details for PANDAS’ free helpline and peer support groups.

Recent research conducted by Aldi revealed that although three out of four parents reported experiencing mental health challenges during or after pregnancy, only 17% sought specialized support, with merely 7% reaching out to charities or helplines.

Furthermore, despite 89% of individuals acknowledging perinatal mental health, 65% expressed the need for more education and understanding, underscoring the importance of enhancing the accessibility and approachability of support services.

Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, emphasized the prevalence of mental health struggles among parents and the significance of destigmatizing conversations around it. By collaborating with PANDAS Foundation and incorporating signs and support information on their baby wipes packaging, Aldi aims to provide reassurance and solidarity to parents in need.

Annie Belasco, CEO of PANDAS Foundation, praised the joint initiative for promoting empathy and visibility, offering a message of hope to parents grappling with silent struggles. The partnership strives to ensure that no parent feels isolated and to facilitate support from pregnancy through early parenthood and beyond.

Kate Lawler, a TV presenter, podcast host, and mother, commended Aldi and PANDAS for their impactful campaign, highlighting the crucial role of accessible support for parents navigating the challenges of parenthood.

In addition to the messaging on product packaging, Aldi has launched a dedicated webpage featuring symptoms information and links to PANDAS Foundation’s services, including helplines, WhatsApp, email support, peer-led groups, and social media channels. The supermarket is also actively enhancing awareness among its staff through educational sessions and the dissemination of resources on perinatal mental health.

Aldi has contributed £30,000 to support the essential work of PANDAS Foundation, reinforcing their commitment to ensuring that no parent feels alone, from pregnancy to postnatal care and beyond.
