Our Yorkshire Farm’s young star, Reuben Owen, found himself on the receiving end of a warning from his mum Amanda after he messed up big time on the family farm.
The reality show staple chatted to Alan Titchmarsh on his Love Your Weekend show this Sunday, reminiscing about rising to fame on Our Yorkshire Farm before going solo with his new series.
But trouble stirred during one part of the show when Alan aired a scene from Reuben’s spin-off Channel 5 programme, Life in the Dales, capturing the moment the budding farmer landed in hot water with his mum.
The incident unfolded as Reuben’s attempt to repair the family road got sticky, literally. His 26-ton loading shovel was trapped in the mud, prompting him to quip to the camera: “Do you ever just feel like you shouldn’t have got out of bed this morning.”
Amanda showed up shortly after, innocently enquiring, “I’m Sorry. I just came to see how it was going,” reports Leeds Live.
Reuben shot back with a heavy dose of sarcasm: “It’s going well,” before his mum cautioned: “I tell you what, your dad is going to kill you,” Not missing a beat, Reuben quipped: “As far as I am aware, let’s not mention this until we get it out.”
The episode concluded with a chuckle, and Alan noted Reuben’s ability to see the funny side despite parental intervention: “So what’s the approach then of Mum and Dad to your new business? It always seems to me, they’re there to give a bit of advice whether you want it or not.”
Continuing the banter, Reuben admitted: “Well, that was one of those times, one of our less profitable jobs.
“My mother wanted a drive repairing and down to the farm because it’s full of potholes from all the big machinery, and then one of our lads decided to take the loading shovel down there, and got stuck.
“So it was a bit of a disaster, and then everyone turned up, and the cameras were switched on. So it was one of them things.”
In another part of the interview, Reuben shared his experiences growing up at Ravenseat, highlighting the “worst” aspect.
“It had its times where it was hard, but overall, an amazing place to live and grow up, I’ve had some great times there,” he expressed.
“I think the worst thing about it is the weather! Other than that, it was a brilliant place to grow up!”
