TikTok star Mikayla Nogueira, who has a staggering 16.4M followers on the social media app, has revealed that her husband is in rehab. In an emotional video, the 26 year old broke down in tears as she explained his absence from her social media posts and that he had relapsed amid his addiction battle.
The skincare and makeup influencer shared the video at the weekend in response to a fan questioning if her husband, Cody Hawken, was back in rehab. Mikayla, who has been married to her husband since July 2023, explained that he has struggled with addiction from a young age, but when they met he had been sober.
Mikayla shared that Cody had gone through two relapses amid his battle with addiction, on one occasion from drugs in January last year and another from alcohol in April. This led to Cody being admitted to a rehab facility in March of this year. While applying her makeup, Mikayla openly explained to her followers: “My husband Cody is in rehab and I’m ready to talk about it.
“Cody’s story is not mine to share, but he has given me his blessing to talk about it today. I want to start by saying I am incredibly proud of Cody. It takes an immense amount of courage to give up your will and enter treatment.
“As many of you have noticed for the last several months, Cody really has not been around, and now you know why – a lot of you have put two and two together.”
When Cody’s addiction spiralled, the TikTok star asked him to leave their home as she struggled through the difficult time. Mikayla heartbreakingly noted that her husband “hit rock bottom”, and she was left fearing for his safety. So much so that she kept a spare key to his apartment in case she needed to get inside amid fears of him overdosing.
Mikayla continued to explain: “Understand sobriety, recovery is not linear. Addiction is a disease, and it’s very complex, and unless you yourself or someone very close to you has struggled with addiction, it’s hard to understand relapsing is a part of the recovery process, not a failure.”
She revealed that Cody called her to say he was going into rehab last month. Breaking down in tears, Mikayla gushed over her husband: “He is the kindest, sweetest, most selfless, intelligent person I’ve ever met.” She detailed her never-ending support to Cody and said once he leaves rehab, she’s “waiting for him with open arms.”
Mikayla sweetly added: “I love Cody with all my heart. He’s my person, and I will stand by him.”
The influencer was flooded with support from fans as one commented: “We’re here for both you and Cody.” A second penned: “Sending you so much love”, while a third said: “This is so raw & real. Praying for Cody & your family.”
“Be proud of yourself too. Being a supportive wife is important and needed!!,” one shared. Another added: “This is MARRIAGE. I am so proud of both of you and I pray nothing but love and blessings over your lives.” “Very proud of both of you for being willing to share,” a follower also wrote.
In the past, Cody has been open about his addiction battle and, in 2022, spoke about his journey in a TikTok video. He said: “Even before I found drugs I was just a sad person. I didn’t feel accepted. I didn’t feel like I belonged anywhere. I was never part of a group. So when I did find drugs, that gave me people to be around who I thought were friends at the time and it helped me escape from self.”
Mikayla and Cody have been together since 2020 after they met on the dating app Tinder. Just a few years later, they got engaged in November 2021 and, on 1 July 2023, tied the knot during a ceremony in Rhode Island, reports People magazine. At the time, Mikayla gushed to the publication: “It’s been a dream for me to get married in Newport since I was a little girl. It’s one of my favourite places in the world.”
Reflecting back to the start of their relationship, Mikayla also shared: “I wasn’t too sure about him as I was used to dating ‘bad boys’. He was quite the opposite, a total angel. I don’t regret saying yes to that first date!”
