Former Manchester United star Nicky Butt has been cautioned by police after an incident at his 50th birthday party in January. Police had been investigating allegations that a headbutt had left a security guard with a broken nose.
Guests at the former Manchester United midfielder’s bash included David and Victoria Beckham, plus Class of ’92 pals Paul Scholes and Gary Neville. Cops subsequently questioned witnesses and scoured CCTV footage following the incident at Soho Farmhouse near Great Tew, Oxfordshire.
According to The Sun, Butt has accepted the criminal sanction for actual bodily harm. He has also agreed to donate to charity. A caution can only be given if the perpetrator admits the offence.
Thames Valley Police said: “The investigation has now concluded. A man was given a caution for the offence of ABH.”
Thames Valley Police previously said they received a report of the alleged assault at 9.15pm on Friday January 24. Officers then turned up at the members-only club, which also offers £800-a-night cabins.
Butt, who made 270 appearances for United and won a host of trophies under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson – as well as winning 39 England caps, turned 50 on Tuesday January 21. He had invited friends, including Manchester United legends, to his gathering at the upmarket venue three days later.
Trouble erupted after Butt, who also played in the Premier League for Newcastle United and Birmingham City, left the bar for a courtyard.
The guard was said to have seen Butt relieving himself against a wall before a row developed and, Butt allegedly lashed out in fury. The guard was treated in hospital for facial injuries amid fears of a broken nose.
A source previously said: “There was blood everywhere and people were shocked as the guard came inside with his face in a total mess.”
