This Morning’s Alison Hammond calls for the ‘first aid kit’ as co-star becomes sick on-air

Must read

Alison Hammond on This Morning called for the ‘first aid kit’ as her usual co-host Sharon Marshall was struck by a seasonal illness and lost her voice live on air.

Dermot O’Leary and Alison expressed their concern for Sharon, who was visibly struggling with coughs while attempting to introduce her segment.

Despite her illness, soap expert Sharon tried to downplay the situation, assuring Dermot and Alison – filling in for regular hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard – that she was fine.

Sharon, at 53, was set to discuss upcoming soap drama on the ITV programme when her voice failed her and she apologised to viewers: “So sorry my voice has completely gone,” but quickly reassured everyone: “It’s hay fever, don’t worry.”

Showing her caring side, Alison asked Dermot: “Have you got the first aid kit?” To which Dermot responded with assurance: “We’ve got a lot of stuff”, and Alison suggested they could offer Sharon some mints for relief, reports Wales Online.

The X Factor’s Dermot then sympathised: “Don’t worry Shazza, I feel weak myself, dosed up to the nines.” Alison added: “Maybe we should do it instead [the soap update] she can just chill, maybe massage her feet, she needs a bit of love.”

Sceptical about taking over, Dermot said: “We don’t know what we’re doing, we’d be all over the show,” leading Alison to agree: “Very true.” Meanwhile, Sharon regained her composure as she re-joined the conversation on the couch to delve into the latest twists and turns dominating the world of soap operas.

Kicking off with Emmerdale, the audience was recently gripped by a tense storyline where Caleb Miligan (portrayed by William Ash) found himself in a dire predicament after Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) executed a devious scheme involving organ theft.

Tensions escalated when Caleb got stabbed and was rushed to an operating table where Dr. Crowley (James Hillier) fought to preserve his life during an emergency organ transplant.

In freshly revealed scenes shown on This Morning, Caleb becomes suspicious that Joe may be harbouring secrets upon noticing the kidney medication. Alison queried, “Is Caleb going to work it out?” to which Sharon responded with a sarcastic hint of revelation, “Oh what a coincidence, you’re on the same kidney medication as me?”

Sharon then proceeded to spill details about EastEnders‘ Sonia Jackson’s (Natalie Cassidy) approaching departure from the prominent BBC series. Sonia was left stunned when her father unexpectedly appeared at her front door in a recent episode.

Both Sonia and her fictional sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) are slated to exit the drama in the near future, with their final storylines poised to unfold over the next several weeks.

Whilst reflecting on their exits, Sharon remarked, “Of course Bianca had to go, to get in the Celebrity Big Brother House.” The soap guru concluded with a possible prediction: “Can I say Jack P Shepherd for the win?”

Alison remarked: “He keeps getting voted for eviction doesn’t he?” To which Sharon replied: “I think that’s because he’s not playing a game and not getting involved. We are seeing the real him now and he’s a really funny guy.”

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1, from 10am.
