Pigeons are scared of colour that will keep them away from the garden

Must read

It’s not uncommon for pigeons to take over your garden, causing a ruckus with their flapping wings, helping themselves to your plants, and making themselves at home in their nests. It’s no wonder you might want to discourage them from lingering in your outdoor space.

Fortunately, there are numerous methods to deter these birds from your garden, and one simple trick can increase your chances of success. You don’t need to resort to harsh chemicals or time-consuming tasks to bid farewell to pigeons; instead, certain colours can do the trick. Interestingly, pigeons have an aversion to specific colours that can make your life easier.

Metallic colours, particularly silver, are effective at scaring them away due to their reflective quality. For instance, metal surfaces outside can reflect light, startling and confusing the birds, making them uneasy.

According to Isabelle Manseau, an avian expert and founder of Birdzy Inc: “Pigeons are deterred by certain colours they perceive as threatening or unsettling.

“Such as reflective or metallic shades like silver or chrome and intense hues like red or orange.” Incorporating these colours into your garden can encourage the pigeons to fly the coop, reports the Express.

You can tastefully integrate these pigeon-deterring colours into your garden, regardless of its style. The goal is to enhance your space without allowing these colours to dominate it.

Consider incorporating decorative elements with a metallic finish into your garden, such as reflective sculptures, metal wind chimes, metal roofing and watering cans.

When it comes to vibrant reds and oranges, the choice is yours on how much or how little you want to use.

Whether you’re planting bright flowers near a birdbath or feeder, or painting your garden furniture or fencing in bold red or orange, you’re not only warding off pigeons but also adding a unique touch to your outdoor area.

It’s worth mentioning that pigeons aren’t particularly fond of stark shades of white either. This could be even simpler to integrate into your garden, suggests Isabella.

By introducing white decorative pebbles and stones, painting furniture white, or positioning white plant pots near feeding spots, you’re creating an uncomfortable environment for these unwelcome birds to settle.

They even recommend planting white flowers like hydrangeas or daisies near your bird feeders. If you opt to paint items white, make sure the paint is non-toxic, or to save yourself the task, you can purchase pre-painted white ornaments.
