Alexis Mac Allister has no interest in a move to Real Madrid even if the Spanish giants come for him. The Liverpool star’s father has dismissed any idea that the Argentina midfielder would be keen on a move to Madrid.
Mac Allister, 26, is about to win the Premier League with the Reds to add to the Carabao Cup he lifted last season following his move from Brighton. There was speculation recently that Real, who are closing in on the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free this summer, could try to raid Anfield for the South American.
But Carlos Mac Allister has moved to dismiss that talk by insisting his son is only focussed on winning trophies with Liverpool.
“There’s nothing to comment,” he told winwin. “Alexis is very happy at Liverpool and hopes to be crowned Premier League champion, then enjoy a break he didn’t get last year.
“It’s important to value and respect the institution he’s playing for, so any comment from us would be unnecessary. He has a contract until 2028. He’s happy at the club – let’s hope he stays there.”
The news will be another big boost for Reds fans after Mo Salah penned a new contract last week to keep him at the club until 2027. Virgil van Dijk is also closing in on a new contract with a deal expected to be announced soon after he recently said there was “progress” in talks.
The Dutchman also said this week that he expects a “big summer” at Anfield with new signings for the soon-to-be 20-time champions. The 33-year-old’s eyes are set on ensuring the team’s superiority continues by demanding top signings in the upcoming transfer period.
He said: “Whatever happens in terms of players going out, players coming in, I think it should be a big summer. I think they’re planning to make it a big summer, so we all have to trust the board, as a Liverpool-connected fan, to do the right job. I think Liverpool should be able to challenge for titles in the upcoming years.”
Van Dijk believes that an uninterrupted pre-season under coach Arne Slot will also help. Last year, many of the top international stars did not join up until just a couple of weeks before the season kicked off as they featured at Euro 2024 and the Copa America.
Van Dijk said: “I think we 100% can improve. If you take it all the way back to the [previous] summer, I didn’t have a proper pre-season. You don’t have time to work on what the manager really wants in terms of a training camp. This year, there is a training camp and there is time for the team to work on what the manager wants and I think that will then improve the team.
“There are still so many things to improve. I think a proper pre-season would definitely help the club in order to be even more consistent than we have already been.”
