A plane was completely destroyed when a pilot lost control on a runway and smashed into a wall during a dramatic landing. The aircraft, a Hawker 800XPi corporate jet, is understood to have skidded off the tarmac as it came into land and ended up in a field, where it collided with the perimeter wall.
The plane was completely destroyed in the drama at Fes Sais International Airport in Fes, Morocco, after a brief journey from Marrakesh Menara Airport in the country’s capital. Despite the plane’s destruction, all three crew members aboard the plane survived the crash with minor injuries.
The transport ministry said the plane “veered off the runway” during landing and “collided with the airport perimeter wall”. They added: “This collision caused significant damage to the aircraft.”
Videos from the scene showed fire crews dowsing the wreckage of the crashed aircraft with water.
The plane was reportedly being operated by the company Air Ocean Maroc, which offers private charter and air ambulance services.
The three crew members suffered various injuries along with an individual on the ground, according to the authorities. The four victims were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Equipment, Transport and Logistics said: “All necessary measures will be taken to shed light on this accident and ensure air transport safety.”
An investigation into the accident continues.
Over the weekend at least one person was confirmed dead following a horror plane crash as the aircraft slammed into a muddy field. Six people were travelling in a twin-engined Mitsubishi MU-2B as it spilled onto muddy terrain in Copake, in the state of New York, on Saturday after lifting off at around 11.30am (5.30pm UK time).
The plane was bound for the Columbia County Airport when it plunged from the sky, and emergency services raced to the scene around 50 miles south of the New York state capital, Albany. Rescue workers encountered difficulty in identifying whether anyone else was injured in the incident, with Columbia’s Undersheriff, Jacqueline Salvatore, telling reporters a combination of snow and wet ground was making it difficult for first responders to access the wreckage.
She told gathered press: “It’s in the middle of a field and it’s pretty muddy, so accessibility is difficult.” Ms Salvatore said New York State Police and a local fire department also responded to the incident.
Data from aircraft tracking site Flightradar24 captures a Mitsubishi MU-2B departing from Westchester County Airport in White Plains after 11.30am flying towards Hudson, where Columbia County Airport is based.
