Dan Burn hailed as a ‘legend’ for actions after being involved in minor car crash

Must read

Dan Burn has revealed that he was in a minor car accident at the weekend and the Newcastle United cult hero then went to help another driver involved in the collision.

Video footage taken by fans sitting in traffic, and subsequently shared on social media, showed the big defender trying to push a car with one supporter saying: “Absolute legend.” The incident occurred near Annitsford, Northumberland, about 10 miles from Newcastle.

And Burn shed light on what happened when speaking after Sunday’s comprehensive win over Manchester United at St James’ Park, which put the Toon in a strong position to finish in the top five.

“I was on Moor Farm roundabout. It is quite bad for crashes because it is quite confusing for people,” Burn told the Chronicle. “The guy hit my truck and somebody has then hit him. The airbags went off and stuff, I got out and checked my truck and somebody asked if I could help push the car.

“Somebody clipped the tyre. You are not going to do a lot of damage on my car. I was just helping. I was on the road but it was deceivingly heavy. I thought I was going to get it off no bother.

“It was nice people took photos instead of helping. But it was my part of the community spirit. I am actually sick of seeing myself in the press at the minute, I am trying to keep my head down.”

In the video, showing Burn and two others pushing the car, a child sitting in another vehicle is heard asking: “Mum, is that actually Dan Burn?” And the parent replies: “It is, aye. Absolute legend.”

Burn, who won a maiden senior England cap last month, was one of Newcastle’s top performance against Ruben Amorim’s strugglers in his 200th Premier League appearance.

“I am not a massive fan of Man United, probably because of the dominance over the 90s and 2000s,” he added.

“It’s not one we needed to be motivated for today but it is always good to set the tone. I think we showed today we were mentally in the place we wanted to be.”
