Bullish Donald Trump today praised his own heart, soul and cognitive ability after he underwent his annual physical.
While the medical reports won’t officially be released – and to the public – over the weekend, Mr Trump said he is convinced the check-up went well. The world leader, the oldest in history to be sworn in as US president, said: “I did well” in a haughy remark to reporters on Friday.
The President, aged 78, spent nearly five hours at Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre in Maryland undergoing what he called “every test you can imagine.” Speaking after the appointment, Mr Trump said: “I was there for a long time. I think I did very well.”
But it is thought he hasn’t yet been made aware of any test results. A full “readout” on Mr Trump’s health will also be made public to the media in the coming days, the Republican’s press office said.
During Joe Biden’s presidency, Mr Trump was often critical of the leader’s physical and mental capacity. Yet ironically, Mr Trump forgot the name of his own doctor when he tried to mock his rival last summer. As part of Friday’s session, Mr Trump had to complete a cognitive test, in which he believes he got “every answer right”.
Speaking to journalists, Mr Trump continued: “Overall, I felt I was in very good shape. A good heart, a good soul, a very good soul.” He then hopped in Air Force One to fly to Florida for the weekend.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said while Trump was still being examined that a “readout from the White House physician” on his health that would be released “as soon as we possibly can” and suggested it’d be comprehensive.

The finished medical report will be the first public information on Mr Trump’s health since an assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July. Rather than release medical records at that time, Texas House of Representatives Ronny Jackson — a staunch supporter who served as his White House physician and once joked in the White House briefing room that Mr Trump could live to be 200 if he had a healthier diet — wrote a memo describing a gunshot wound to the politician’s right ear.
In a subsequent interview with CBS last August, Mr Trump said he’d “very gladly” release his medical records – but he never did. Mr Trump is three years younger than Mr Biden. But on Inauguration Day of his second term in January, Mr Trump was five months older than Mr Biden was during his 2021 inauguration — making Mr Trump the nation’s oldest president to be sworn into office.
