Prince Harry has reportedly claimed his police protection was withdrawn in a bid to stop him and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex from leaving the Royal Family.
The Duke of Sussex believed the moment he learned of the decision was “difficult to swallow” and hinted the alleged move was at the root of the rift that emerged with his father, King Charles. He claimed the alleged treatment would be hard to forgive and that the “worst fears have been confirmed” by secret evidence he heard in court. He reportedly believes the taxpayer-funded security detail was removed in a bid to have him and his wife remain in the UK, after they sensationally announced they would be stepping back from royal duties.
Prince Harry said, speaking outside the Royal Courts of Justice: “We were trying to create this happy house. “
He hoped the couple’s joy would lead to improved relations with the rest of the Royal Family, according to The Telegraph. The couple are then said to have viewed the removal of the security detail as an alleged attempt to keep them in the country as well as remaining within the Royal Family.
Prince Harry then made the move of suing the Government in a bid to get back the security detail. Prince Harry took legal action against the Home Office following the move and argued that the Royal and VIP Executive Committee failed its policy and that he had been singled out for “unjustified and inferior treatment”.
Taxpayer funded security is given to the King and Queen as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children. A more individualistic approach was adopted for the Duke and his family, with security needing to be given 30 days’ notice regarding any plans to travel to the UK.
The Duke reportedly believes King Charles could intervene in the security detail case. But Buckingham Palace sources reportedly said it strongly refuted Prince Harry’s account that the King would involve himself in the judicial process.
