Inter Miami president David Beckham has paid tribute to wife Victoria for her hilarious reaction to a recent result. The Herons were in action this week against Los Angeles FC in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
They on the back foot after losing 1-0 in the first leg, requiring a home win on Wednesday in order to advance. So it’s just as well Lionel Messi stepped up with two pivotal goals to ease his side into the last four of the competition.
While he may have moved into a boardroom role these days, that doesn’t mean Beckham is any less invested in the game. In fact, one photo suggests Inter Miami‘s fortunes are as meaningful to the Manchester United and Real Madrid icon as any of the clubs he represented as a player.
Though the same might not be said for Victoria, who looked positively nonplussed standing next to her impassioned partner. And that coaxed a response from David after catching the contrast between their two emotions.
‘Posh’ looked demure in a cardigan and skirt combo as she watched her hubbie’s team in action up close. And while he gave a tattooed fist of appreciation, Victoria simply smiled on in a much more modest display.
Accompanied by several crying-with-laughter emojis, Becks wrote: “And they say my wife’s not into football – how dare they? Emotions were running high in the stadium last night for most of us. I love you @victoriabeckham. I know you love it really. Always by my side.”
One can understand Beckham’s ecstatic reaction to overturning the deficit against LAFC and reaching the semi-finals of the Champions Cup. The Herons were enjoying an undefeated season prior to their first-leg loss but avenged that setback with interest at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
They’ll now face Major League Soccer rivals the Vancouver Whitecaps in another two-legged affair in their bid to land more silverware this season. Messi & Co won the Leagues Cup in 2023, then topped the MLS’ Eastern Conference last year before clinching the Supporters’ Shield.
Even at 37 years old, World Cup-winner Messi continues to demonstrate his worth as a key cog for Inter Miami, who are coached by his former team-mate Javier Mascherano. He coolly converted Wednesday’s winner from the spot with just six minutes left on the clock, preventing their exit from the competition on away goals.
More than a decade has passed since Beckham retired and promptly submitted his bid to open a franchise in Miami. And the move has been a rampant success, with arguably the best player of all time dazzling on a regular basis, though Messi’s contract is due to expire at the end of 2025.
The side sit fourth in the overall MLS standings and are one of only two teams yet to lose in the league this term. That’s enough to get Beckham’s blood pumping, while loving wife Victoria appears happy to be along for the ride – even if she doesn’t like to overly show it.
