The iconic ABC medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, renowned for its long-standing position in the realm of scripted TV series, has witnessed a revolving door of medical staff throughout its tenure.
Yet, none have left quite the imprint as Sandra Oh’s portrayal of Cristina Yang, who graced the show with her presence from 2005 until 2014.
Fans of Grey’s Anatomy are bound to be over the moon with the latest buzz that Oh is now open to the idea of reprising her role.
While she hasn’t confirmed her return to the beloved Shonda Rhimes creation, Oh tantalised fans by admitting to Entertainment Weekly that she’s no longer giving a “hard no” to the possibility.
She said: “For the longest time, it has always been a hard no. And it’s just…I don’t know. I just don’t know.”
Disney+ now costs as little as £4.99 a month, but members can get 12 months for the price of 10 by paying for a year upfront on the ad-free Standard or Premium plans.
Disney+ is the only place to stream hit shows like Rivals, The Bear and Shōgun, plus blockbuster franchises like Star Wars and Marvel.
The star of Killing Eve recently joined Grey’s Anatomy actors Camilla Luddington and Jessica Capshaw on their podcast Call It What It Is, sparking conversation about her potential comeback as Dr Yang, reports the Mirror US.
Reflecting on her departure from the series, Oh conveyed the depth of her contemplation, saying: “When you finish something, it’s a deep process…I just cannot tell you…I can’t stress to you enough how consciously I tried to fully process leaving.”
She continued, acknowledging the character’s enduring popularity: “I don’t feel the need to revisit, but I also profoundly understand the audience’s love for this character, because I’ve seen it for the past 10 years. That’s the part that makes me just go, hmmm.”
Capshaw added fuel to the fire during the podcast by suggesting she heard whispers that Oh “maybe might come back.”
“She’s never said that before,” the Grey’s Anatomy star shared, with co-star Luddington concurring: “No she has not.”
The actress elaborated on the recent buzz:, saying “In the past, it’s sort of been, ‘I’ve moved on to new waters,’ and she obviously loves the show so much, but it didn’t seem like there would be a return of Cristina Yang happening anytime soon.”
She added: “And maybe it’s still not happening anytime soon, but the fact that she would be open to it. Because we never really got to work together very much.”
Referencing her own character, she noted: “There was another intern that was always on her service, not Jo Wilson.”
Reach has contacted Sandra Oh’s representatives for further comment.
