Exact date brutal Arctic winds to send UK temperatures plummeting to -3C

Brits are set to be hit by a brutal -3C Arctic blast at the start of next month as wintry conditions make themselves known in May.

Many people enjoyed glorious sunshine on Wednesday, which is set to be replaced by an unwelcome stint of wet weather for some people over the Easter holiday. But before the next bank holiday in May arrives, temperatures are set to fall into the minus figures come May when some areas of the UK will shiver in -3 conditions. Concerning maps from WXCharts, using Metdesk data, shows the country will be hit hardest come Friday, May 2.

Fort William in Scotland could see the lowest temperatures which could plunge as low as -3C. Areas around Inverness and Portree may see mercury levels around -2C, according to the maps. Northern Wales will be around -1C, as well Northern Ireland.

In England temperatures will barely reach 2C in the south and around London. The North West and North East will be around 0C.

The Met Office’s long range forecast reads: “Early May will probably see a good deal of settled weather with high pressure patterns most likely to dominate. Whilst some spells of more unsettled weather are possible at times, these perhaps more likely towards mid-May, much of the period is expected be largely fine and dry. Temperatures are expected to be near or slightly above average overall.”

It comes as millions of Brits are bracing for another chilly storm before that with as much as four inches of snow predicted to fall per hour next week, new weather maps reveal. According to WXCharts’ data, intense flurries will first land in Scotland and the North East before moving further south from Thursday, April 24.

It comes after the Met Office warned unsettled conditions would likely return towards the end of April, with a risk of “hail, thunder and strong winds” hitting Brits up and down the country. Almost half of the UK will welcome snow on Thursday next week between Wick and Darlington, according to WXCharts’ predictions.

Areas in the path of the upcoming blizzard include Inverness, the majority of the Scottish Highlands , Glasgow, Newcastle and Middlesborough – and around four inches of snow is expected to hit the southern Highlands, Cairgnorms and County Durham by noon.

Brits in the North West could also wake up to snow the following morning on April 25, the forecaster predicts. A number of major cities are set to welcome around 2-3 inches per hour from 6am, including Manchester , Leeds, Sheffield, Doncaster, York and Hull.

It comes as the Met Office warned of “hail, thunder and strong winds” hitting Brits across the country towards the end of April.

In its long-range forecast from Sunday, April 20 until Tuesday, April 29, the forecaster said: “Mainly unsettled conditions are likely across the UK at the start of this period.
