Netflix subscribers left ‘screaming at the TV’ as they beg for second season of hit new comedy

Must read

Netflix lovers, brace yourselves for the latest heartwarming comedy that’s got everyone talking – you won’t want to miss this gem.

Already a hit with Canadian viewers after its January release on CBC, the series has quickly garnered a loyal fanbase.

Now, international audiences can join in the fun as it hits Netflix this Thursday (10th April).

North of North follows the story of Siaja, portrayed by Anna Lambe, a young Inuk woman navigating life’s challenges. After marrying and becoming a mother straight out of high school, she faces a tumultuous and very public split from her husband Ting, played by Kelly William.

Determined to start anew, Siaja leans on her friends and family for support in the quaint Arctic town of Ice Cove, reports the Mirror US.

The cast also features Mary Lynn Rajskub as Helen, the town manager; Keira Cooper as Bun, Siaja’s daughter; and Maika Harper as Neevee, her mother.

This eight-part comedy series has won over Canadian hearts with its original humour and authentic depiction of Indigenous communities in Northern Canada.

One glowing five-star Google review says: “This show is truly beautiful. Watching it made me realize how little representation there has been for Indigenous peoples, especially for those in the North.

“It is incredible to see a show with a majority Indigenous cast, set in the North, and actually centred around Indigenous culture and language. This is one of my all time favourite shows and we’re only six episodes in!

“I am so grateful to everyone who was a part of this for creating something that was long overdue.”

The fan added: “I hope we get many more seasons of this show and that we get more film and television that authentically represents Indigenous communities, their cultures, and their languages!”

Another thrilled review read: “I adore Anna Lambe as the main character Siaja as she navigates finding her way in life and seeing the confidence she develops over the season.

“Really hoping that the show is renewed. This show was an absolute breath of fresh air and I can’t wait to see where it goes.”

Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new Sky Stream TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan.

This lets members watch live and on-demand TV content without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like Black Mirror and You.

One commenter expressed their cultural pride: “This show was sooo Canadian and felt so representative to our culture and also lack thereof.

“This story is one to remember and I can’t wait to follow them along for hopefully a second season.”

On Reddit, the series sparked intense reactions, with one viewer exclaiming: “I screamed at my TV when I saw this was the season finale. There had better be a season 2, this show was too good not to continue!”

And another committed fan declared: “Season 2!! I’ll be re-bingeing as soon as it hits Netflix.”

With such a strong fanbase, it’s clear that viewers are keeping their fingers crossed for more episodes, so don’t miss out on this comedic treasure now available on Netflix.

North of North is available to stream on Netflix.
