Premier League star has ‘car seized near training ground’ for not holding valid licence

Must read

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has had his car seized for driving without a valid licence, it has been claimed. The Ecuador international midfielder is understood to have been driving near the Blues’ training ground when police stopped him.

Caicedo became the most expensive player in English football when he joined the London club from Brighton in the summer of 2023. The 23-year-old, who moved to Brighton from Independiente del Valle in his homeland, cost an initial £100million which could rise to £115m with add-ons.

According to The Sun, Caicedo faces a court summons for driving illegally. The same publication reports that his £160,000 Audi has been seized following the stoppage on April 4, while checks are carried out over whether he had valid insurance.

Surrey Police told Mirror Football: “A man in his 20s from Cobham was stopped by officers on Fairmile Lane in Cobham on Friday 4 April and found to be driving without a licence. The vehicle was seized, and our enquiries are ongoing.”

The player’s agent, Manuel Sierra Camacho told the Sun: “There is no comment from us about this matter. I’m sorry.” While Chelsea declined to comment when contacted by Mirror Football.

Foreign nationals who become residents of the UK are permitted to drive on the licence issued in their home country for a period of up to 12 months. Beyond that point, they need to apply for a provisional licence and pass the theory and practical driving tests if they wish to continue driving in the UK.

Caicedo joined previous club Brighton in February 2021 and made his debut later that month.. He played just 53 times for the Seagulls before moving to Stamford Bridge, where he has been part of a squad battling for Champions League qualification under Enzo Maresca.

The defensive midfielder has featured in all 31 of the Blues’ league matches this season, captaining the side on two occasions. He has scored once, in a 1-1 draw with Manchester United in November

He is part of Chelsea‘s travelling squad to face Legia Warszawa in the quarter-finals of the Conference League. Chelsea have won all of their matches in the competition, topping the league phase table and overcoming FC Copenhagen in the round of 16.

Chelsea added senior stars Cole Palmer and Trevoh Chalobah to their Conference League squad for the second half of the season, with January signing Mathis Amougou also joining the group. In addition, stars like Caicedo – who wasn’t called upon in the league phase but played in both Copenhagen legs – have been more involved.

“We need to experience this kind of game, this kind of moment,” ,manager Maresca told reporters ahead of the first leg in Poland. “After tomorrow, we will be a better team, we need this.

“We have shown the players some of the environment in this stadium, so they can adapt. “The players have to think that they are lucky to experience these kinds of games but we cannot allow external factors to change the way we play.”
