Man Utd legend claims Bruno Fernandes could be sold to Man City in shock transfer

Must read

Manchester United would be open to selling Bruno Fernandes to local rivals Manchester City, according to Teddy Sheringham. United skipper Fernandes has been linked with a £90million summer switch to Real Madrid, but Old Trafford legend Sheringham reckons Sir Jim Ratcliffe would be open to doing a shock deal with City – for £100million.

Fernandes has been United’s stand-out player in a dismal season for the Red Devils, who are currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League.

Against that backdrop, Fernandes, 30, has been linked with a move away this summer, with Sheringham claiming United co-owner would give the go-ahead for the Portuguese playmaker to make the controversial move to City – as Kevin De Bruyne’s replacement- the right fee.

“You know, all we’ve heard coming out of Manchester United is that pretty much every top player has a price, no one is unsellable because of the finances,” said Sheringham. “Then perhaps a deal for Bruno to join Manchester City as De Bruyne’s replacement could be struck.

“Manchester United need to rebuild. It’s a dire situation at the club. They’re going to need money to buy players. If City chucked £100million-plus at United for Bruno Fernandes, 30 years-old, maybe they consider it.

“I think I know what Jim Ratcliffe would say. Jim Ratcliffe would have a look and say ‘that’s a few staff that we don’t have to sack in the summer, let’s just do a deal.’”

Sheringham also claimed City could make a shock short-term swoop for former United and Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo – if Erling Haaland does not recover in time for the Club World Cup.

“I mean, United fans wouldn’t be happy,” said Sheringham. “But if the figures add up, Ronaldo would probably jump at the chance. He can definitely score a goal, can’t he? That, there’s no denying.

“Yeah, they looked a little bit lost without their focal point [in the Manchester derby] didn’t they? They didn’t have that same flow to their team, but I don’t know.

“Wow, I’ve not even thought about that, Ronaldo would definitely be excited by it. That would be funny. I bet if you offered him the chance to go to City, he would bite your hand off.”
