Why Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom finally decided to show Daisy’s face at space mission

Must read

As Katy Perry took a brief and controversial trip to space on Monday, the pop superstar’s four-year-old daughter Daisy Dove Bloom was watching on proudly – her first public appearance after her parents previously kept her out of the spotlight.

Katy, who shares daughter Daisy with fiancé Orlando Bloom, was ecstatic as she touched back down on Earth after her Blue Origin space sojourn, kissing the ground and lifting a flower skyward while hinting at a song inspired by her out-of-this-world journey.

Daisy, dressed in an astronaut costume, was on the ground to witness every step of her mother’s 11-minute trip to space with Jeff Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez, CBS host Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, scientist Amanda Nguyen and film producer Kerianne Flynn.

After previously never sharing pictures of their daughter online, it’s reported Katy and Orlando decided to officially introduce Daisy to the world to show everyone how much she means to them – but reaching that decision wasn’t easy and they had to consider what would happen had the trip gone wrong.

Katy and Orlando apparently “had long conversations about it, going back and forth on whether they wanted to let their previously sheltered daughter witness the trip” but ultimately decided “this was the perfect way to let the world see her” – with an insider adding that Daisy’s public appearance won’t be a one-off.

Speaking to the DailyMail, a source added that the couple “had to acknowledge that something could go wrong” and if it did, “Daisy would have been traumatised.” They added: “Ultimately, Jeff was able to convince them that the risk was incredibly low.” A separate source claimed the couple allowed Daisy to witness Katy touring space in order for the mum-of-one to “show her daughter that she can do anything.”

While Daisy was happy to appear on camera, Orlando kept a low profile and dodged the cameras. “He did not want to take away from Katy’s moment and he also did not want people to see the fear in his eyes,” the insider added.

Katy paid homage to Louis Armstrong by crooning ‘What A Wonderful World’ alongside an all-female squad as they ascended into the cosmos. Blue Origin took to Twitter to post a clip of the girl-gang floating in zero-G inside their spacecraft, locking eyes with the lens and declaring “taking up space” in harmony.

Back on terra firma, clutching a daisy as a sweet nod to her little one of the same name, Katy beamed post-embrace from Bezos’s own New Shepard NS-31, gracing the ground with a kiss. Bezos was quick to offer congratulations, met with Katy’s heartfelt “Thank you.”

The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker opened up post-adventure: “I feel super connected to love, so connected to love. I think this experience has shown me you never know how much love is inside of you, like how much love you have to give and how loved you are until the day you launch.”

Explaining the significance of her floral tribute, Katy mused: “Daisies are common flowers, but they grow through any condition, they go through cement, they go through cracks, they go through walls, they are resilient. They are powerful, they are strong, they are everywhere.

“Flowers are to me, god’s smile, but it’s also a reminder of our beautiful Earth and the flowers here, and god’s smile and the beautiful magic that is everywhere, all around us and even in a simple daisy. So to really appreciate it and remember it and take care of it, protect it.”

The successful launch was heralded by mission control’s countdown, followed by the ignition of the craft’s engines, propelling it skyward as ground staff observed, commenting “looks good”.

As the rocket hit “supersonic” speeds, it shot into the sky with Katy’s cheers echoing from within. The two crafts separated at a height of 28,000ft, marking their entry into space and presenting them with a view of the moon. The crew experienced the sensation of zero gravity as they briefly unstrapped from their seats before preparing for descent.

Less than 20 minutes later, both crafts touched down on Earth. Mission control announced “booster touchdown” as the ship landed on the launch pad, while the astronauts descended in a separate craft, their cheers audible over the sound of the attached parachute.

A cloud of dust marked the crew’s landing, with Katy’s daughter Daisy watching as safety crews rushed towards the ship. Katy described her space journey as second only to motherhood, explaining her initial reluctance to leave.

She shared: “I have to surrender and trust that the universe is going to take care of me and protect me, and also my family, my daughter, because I’m full up from being able to get that gift to be being a mum, and to go to space is incredible, and I wanted to model courage and worthiness and fearlessness.”
