This Morning’s Siân Welby had to say sorry to viewers shortly after the show kicked off on Wednesday.
The 38-year-old broadcaster stepped up as co-host with Dermot O’Leary, filling in for Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard during their Easter holiday absence.
The incident unfolded on April 9 as Siân and Dermot were teasing the day’s line-up. Capital Radio’s very own presenter momentarily wandered off screen, then reappeared clutching her mobile phone.
“Sorry, I wasn’t being unprofessional here,” Siân assured, as Dermot quickly jumped at the chance for a light-hearted jibe, telling her: “Well it looks like you were being unprofessional.”
He went on to reveal: “Your phone was on the studio floor,” which Siân rebutted with: “No I wasn’t. You know what I’m like, I just want to check my Instagram to see how it’s going,” reports Wales Online.
Siân then clarified her actions, pointing out: “No. Look at my phone screen here so basically, can you see these dots?” Upon realising she was addressing the wrong lens, she promptly apologised once more.
Correctly angled towards the appropriate camera this time, she continued: “Ohh sorry, look at the dots on the screen, these can apparently eliminate car sickness, i’m not too sure how they work but I know who does know, Alice Beer, you’re going to tell us more.”
Towards the end of the segment, Siân expressed optimism about the obscure trick, suggesting it might be a game changer for the multitude of travellers plagued by motion sickness.
Alice, the consumer journalist, popped back on the show to unveil how everything works and dished out handy phone tricks possibly not known before.
Regarding the dot screensaver hack, Alice spilled the beans: “The motion sickness is our eyes saying ‘you’re not moving’ but your inner ear saying ‘I’m moving around’ which causes the sick feeling.”
She then demonstrated with her phone in hand, explaining: “The dots down the side of the screen show both your ears and eyes that you are moving so that you know you are in motion and won’t get sick.”
Alice took the viewers through activating this clever trick on their phones which detects when users are in a vehicle. She proudly announced: “If you take nothing else home from today, then take nothing else, I have changed your life, my job here is done.”
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1, from 10am.
