‘Gorgeous’ European city where a pint is £1.38 and three-course dinner is £21

Must read

Looking to whisk yourself away on a city break without taking a hammer to your wallet? A study pinpointed some of Europe’s most cost-efficient places to enjoy a holiday, uncovering a gem in Central Europe that boasts rich history and stunning scenes at a sliver of the price you’d fork out in other major cities across the globe.

Although Ljubljana reigns as Slovenia’s capital and its biggest urban area, it turns out it’s also quite the hotspot for those looking to have a good time on a tight budget. “Prices here are particularly low,” reveals Laura Evans-Fisk, eurochange’s head of digital engagement, who was behind the study crunching the numbers.

And when it comes to grub and a pint? “Especially for food and drink,” she continues. “A beer can cost as little as €1.62, what’s not to love?”

To throw in some hard stats, the eurochange number-crunch revealed that your average beer will pinch just about €1.62 – converting to roughly £1.38 – from your wallet, and a three-course dinner rings up at merely €25, which is around £21.37.

Putting this side by side with some UK prices, and things start to look particularly alluring, reports the Express. Take Finder.com’s numbers, for instance – splashing out for a beer back home hits an average of £4.21 nationwide, but head into London and you’re looking at a more sobering £5.90 a pop.

And don’t worry about your flight and accomodation wreaking havoc on your savings; if you play your cards right timetable-wise, eurochange noted flights from London Gatwick to Ljubljana are a nifty £154 on average.

Both easyJet and British Airways operate direct flights to Ljubljana, although you’ll need to fly out of London.

If you prefer to fly from a regional UK airport, you can take a connecting flight. Ljubljana, like many capital cities, offers high-end luxury accommodations, but you can still find a good deal.

For example, Boutique Hostel Angel in the city centre has been rated “superb” by Booking.com reviews and offers one-night stays from £19 per night.

Alternatively, if you prefer a hotel experience, ONE66 hotel is one of the city’s top-rated budget options, also rated “superb”, with stays from £57 per night.

This beautiful and ornate city has plenty to keep you busy. “Located in the heart of Slovenia, Ljubljana is a great place to visit, with easy access to the rest of the country for day trips and excursions,” said Laura.

Ljubljana, the country’s cultural and political hub, boasts a stunning old town filled with picturesque streets and beautiful Baroque buildings waiting to be explored.
