Where are The Bill stars now? Celebrity Big Brother stint to tragic deaths 40 years on

Must read

It’s been 40 years since the stars of The Bill first appeared on our screens from Sun Hill Police Station. The show created huge names including DC Jim Carver, PC Reg Hollis, June Ackland, who are are all beloved characters from the show.

But since the programme last wrapped in 2010, due to declining viewing figures, the stars have all taken very different paths in their lives now. Over the years, some stars have gone on to do more TV work while others have opted for more quiet lives. Here we take a look at where the cast from The Bill are now.

Chris is best known for his role as DCI Frank Burnside, a role which landed him a spin-off series, Burnside, which was short-lived.

Since his time on the show he also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2015 but his time on the reality series was also brief as he was the second housemate to be evicted.

In October, Mark appeared on This Morning for a special interview with Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley.

To mark the beloved crime drama turning 40, the ITV presenters welcomed Mark alongside castmates Graham Cole and Andrew Lancel to the show. However, ITV viewers will know them best for their roles as DC Jim Carver, PC Tony Stamp and DI Neil Manson.

Speaking about their time on the show, Mark, 64, revealed he had made over 700 episodes as he called his time on The Bill “amazing”. As a flashback image of him appeared on-screen from the pilot episode, the actor looked almost unrecognisable.

Touching on his character, he confessed: “He never really rose about DC! I think right at the very end he became a sergeant.”

Since his time on The Bill, Mark has had other TV work including a stint on EastEnders in which he played Mickey Miller’s (Joe Swash) father. Meanwhile, he has also had roles in Heartbeat and the drama, Missing.

Andrew also appeared alongside Mark on This Morning and shared he was extremely nervous to film alongside Mark who was known as “the guru” on set. He revealed: “I was like, ‘Ok this is who I’m acting with Mark Wingett’. I was his boss and I had to tell him off. It was quite a daunting thing to go into it!”

However, with a lengthy career in acting it’s safe to say the star is now more comfortable on set as he has many great roles under his belt.

Andrew now plays Frank Foster in Coronation Street, but has also appeared in ITV crime drama Unforgotten.

George’s character DC Duncan Lennox was a favourite on the show, appearing on 200 episodes of the programme from 1993 until 2003.

Sadly, in January 2022, the star died at the age of 61. His niece Louisa Rossi shared the sad news, saying: “Unfortunately George Rossi who played DC Duncan Lennox passed away the morning of Wednesday 5th January 2022.”

Graham undertook the role of Tony Stamp for an impressive 25 years on the show – appearing on The Bill from 1984 to 2009.

Since leaving, he has had roles in Law and Order: UK, Evil Never Dies, Doctors, Holby City, and romantic-drama film, 23 Walks in 2020.

The actor was also awarded an OBE in 2010 to recognise his work with charities. He is a member of the cahrity Grand Order of Water Rats and held the title King Rat in 2009. The charity “represents an unselfish giving to those less fortunate than ourselves, providing a stream of support for nationally recognised charities”, according to its mission statement.

Graham is also a patron for ChildLine and the president of the National Holiday Fund, which takes sick and disabled children to Disney World in Florida.

Trudie’s character June is one of The Bill’s most recognisable faces from the much-loved show. She played June for 24 years and was involved in a number of huge storylines – including a romance with colleague Jim and being duped by Gabriel Kent (Todd Carty), who was in fact not Gabriel, but his adopted brother David hell bent on revenge.

Following her stint at Sun Hill Police Station, the actress has since appeared in a Emmerdale, in which she played Georgie Sharma for four years from 2011 to 2015. She also had a role in Casualty in which she played Karen Bartley.

And she’s not the only member of her family to find fame either as Trudie’s daughter, Elly is singer La Roux, best known for huge hits The Kill and Bulletproof.

Jeff Stewart is best known for his role as PC Reg Hollis on the police drama series, The Bill, between 1984 and 2008 before he was sadly axed from the show.

Jeff’s character was written out of the show four years before the programme ended for good in 2012. However, a year before the cameras stopped rolling, Jeff revealed to the press that he had felt “badly let down” by the decision to axe his character after 872 episodes.

In recent years, Jeff has surprised fans with his very different look as he was known on screen as having cropped dark hair and a clean-shaven face. He rocks a much more relaxed look now with a lengthy grey beard and long grey hair, which he sported when he was spotted out and about in August 2023.

Kevin’s role as DC Alfred ‘Tosh’ Lines in The Bill saw him rise to fame – but he already had a number of acting stints under his belt including the role of Don Watkins in Coronation Street.

Tosh appeared in more than 400 episodes of the police drama from 1988 and, during his time, the show even earned a National Television Award for Best TV Drama, which Kevin collected.

Sadly the actor was sacked from The Bill in 1998 after turning up to work too intoxicated to film. The star, who battled with chronic alcoholism, admitted himself to a residential rehab clinic in a bid to get sober, but left the facility to go on a deadly drinking binge. He sadly died after choking on his own vomit at the age of 49, just a week after filming his final scenes on The Bill.

Former Hollyoaks star Gary Lucy joined the show as Will Fletcher but his role was a tough one as he joined Sun Hill to replace PC Powell the day after his funeral. He was on the show for four years, leaving after earning a promotion to work in Westminster CID.

Gary was already a big name actor in his own right before joining The Bill, following his iconic roles in Footballers Wives and Hollyoaks. Since his stint on The Bill, he returned to Hollyoaks, took part in Dancing On Ince and had a tole in EastEnders as Danny Pennant.

He also appeared in Celebs Go Dating in which he met and fell for Love Island’s Laura Anderson and the pair share one child together, Bonnie. However, their romance didn’t work out and the pair have since split.

Now known for his role on EastEnders as the lovable rouge cop Jack Branning, Scott first appeared on The Bill from 2002 until 2007.

Scott even acted alongside his on-screen love interest Diane Parish, who plays Denise Fox on EastEnders. His role in the Walford-based soap has seen him sky rocket to fame in soapland, thanks to his high-profile romances with Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell.

Eric Richard played Bob Cryer for two decades on the popular police drama.

He continued acting after The Bill. He has undertaken roles in the Oscar-winning film Stutterer and the much-talked about war epic Dunkirk.

Sadly, Eric experienced heartbreaking family tragedy when his two-month-old grandson Charlie Smith died in the devastating 2004 Boxing Day tsunami in Sri Lanka.
