Real Housewives of Cheshire’s Paige Chohan admits her recent weight loss has helped transform her mental health. The 33-year-old is one of the youngest cast members of the ITVBe reality show but in recent weeks has shown she can hold her own. Last year, Paige welcomed her first child, daughter Nora with her husband Amir and since then, has gone on to transform her physical and mental state.
During her pregnancy, she gained three stone and while she admits it’s natural for women’s bodies to change, she wanted to “feel herself again.” “I’ve always been into fitness prior to being pregnant,” she told the Mirror. Paige went on to add: “I think throughout pregnancy, I gained three stone and your body changes so much.
“Even after your child is born, you go through so many changes – you’re up all night with a newborn. I just wanted to get back in the gym and feel like myself again. I needed something for my headspace as well.”
She adds that it wasn’t necessarily about losing the weight, which was a benefit but was more about her headspace and mental clarity. “I wanted to feel strong and healthy,” Paige said, adding: “I love having curves, that’s something I wanted to maintain as I was losing weight. I was making sure I was maintaining my curves and keeping strong and weight lifting.”
But it was hard work for the businesswoman who recruited a personal trainer to help her. “I did seven months straight,” she explained before adding that she had to take a break due to the “crazy” filming schedule for Housewives. In recent months, she’s been doing the “bare minimum” but now filming is wrapped, she’s already enlisted the help of her PT and is ready to be “consistent”.
However, Paige also credits her “glam squad” for her stunning looks. “I love them loads and they’re lifesavers,” she exclaimed. But Paige gets in her 10k steps every day which she admits can be difficult due to working from home but she ensures herself, Amir and daughter get out for their daily walks and to clear their heads. Amir also jumped on the fitness transformation with Paige which she says “did help” their family.
Throughout series 18 of the show, the tenth anniversary, Paige allowed fans to see more of herself including her faith. Having grown up in a Church of England family, Paige converted to Islam later in life, having studied different faiths from the age of 17.
“It was really important for me to show more about my personal journey, especially with my faith and my religion,” she said. “It’s a massive part of mine and my family’s life and sharing more about what changed my life for the better and what gave me direction and perspective when I was growing up – Islam really did save me and give me a lot of clarity.
“I think it’s really nice that the show was able to document that.” She went on to say: “It was great that they were able to show faith and have that conversation on camera. I was able to share that with the audience and the girls.” Growing up, Paige’s parents weren’t strict protestants and were more relaxed towards their faith. “I kind of sat there and questioned, there was more meaning.
“I wanted to explore,” she said. But Paige in her quest to find more studied Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism before finding herself resonating with Islam. “I was able to go on such a journey at a young age, and I found a connection with Islam and I grew that over time.
“My faith is never ending, it’s not just I found Islam and that’s it – I consistently study and research every aspect of faith. I always learn and I always want to understand more and I think that’s what I love and I think I’ll continue to do it forever.” Since becoming a mother, Paige has completely changed her perspective on life.
“It’s not just about you, it’s yourself, your partner, you’re doing what you want, when you want. It doesn’t become about you anymore, that’s a huge change, you learn to love something more than yourself and you don’t know that until you have your children.
“It’s just a great feeling to give so much love and care to another soul other than yourself, you see the benefits that child has.” One thing that has changed for Paige is her friendship with her fellow Housewives, mainly Seema Malhotra. Fans have seen their bond disintegrate after Malhotra commented that Paige was a client at her clinic before becoming a friend.
“It’s definitely been an emotional rollercoaster,” she said. While there have been tense moments, there have also been incredible highs. “I’ve really enjoyed it, filming four, five months of your life, it feels intense. It’s coming to an end now and it feels surreal, I’m really happy with how this season’s gone – I’m very happy for it to air on the screen and see the storylines.”
However, it has been “hard” for her to watch back. “There’s a lot more to come and a lot more of a journey that you’re going to see,” she explained. Housewives is due to conclude on May 5 and while things may look “crazy and emotional,” she reveals that there is a “positive outcome” towards the end of the series.
One huge change that fans saw this week was Seema and Paige rekindling their friendship following an emotional discussion at a party held by Lauren Simon. Both parties admitted they would love their friendship to get back to where it was due to the close bond that they shared, as well as the friendships their families had formed.
Despite some initially calling Paige attention seeking – she admits she’s her “authentic” self throughout the show. “I don’t want to go and be fake,” she said. “I’m not afraid to say what I think which is really important in life. Sometimes that may be seen as a negative but from my perspective, I see that as a positive and I do think that becomes well respected throughout the season.”
In true Cheshire style, bitchy comments are often made. One comment made by Lauren was “harsh,” says Paige but she admits her co-stars are now seeing the real her as she initially struggles to open up to people.
“It can be hard to watch, but I do know that I have a lot of friends in the group who do see my side and do support me,” she says. Her closest friends, influencer Ellie Egar and Lystra Adams are “on the same vibe and wavelength” as her. “They’re just so much fun,” she gushed.
