UPDATE: According to a communication from Rami El Faghali, the city’s transit bus operations and maintenance director, Line 1 service resumed at around 9:20 a.m. on Saturday, August 15.

An issue with the overhead wires on the east end of Line 1’s O-Train led to platform closures and the implementation of replacement buses on Friday.

At 8 p.m. on Sunday, Line 1 service was altered to run between Tunney’s Pasture and Tremblay stations, with R1 bus service operating between Hurdman and Blair stations.

The adjustment was made to facilitate repair work, which was expected to continue overnight, as stated in a memo by OC Transpo just before 6 p.m. on Friday.

A damaged component in the overhead power wire system between St-Laurent and Cyrville was detected around 9:50 a.m. on Thursday, causing a train to come to a stop, according to a memo from transit services general manager Rick Leary.

Previously, trains were not running beyond St-Laurent.

Leary mentioned in a memo sent at 3:10 p.m. that regular Line 1 service would resume at the beginning of service on Friday, but this did not occur. Another memo around 7:40 a.m. on Friday revealed more extensive damage than anticipated, with repairs scheduled to resume in the evening following peak hours. Pending approval from inspectors, regular service was expected to resume on Saturday.

The status of the Saturday target was not referenced in a subsequent memo sent just before 6 p.m.

The LRT’s overhead catenary system uses hanging wires to supply electric power for the trains. Previous issues have occurred following freezing rain or lightning, although the exact cause of the recent damage has not been disclosed by OC Transpo.
