Thieves in the United Kingdom have taken their criminal activities to a new level. Authorities in the UK are currently working to recover a significant quantity of stolen Guinness beer, totaling around 70,000 pints. The theft, which occurred in a depot close to Liverpool in northwest England, involved the disappearance of two trailer truckloads of the renowned dark brew. The stolen Guinness is valued at approximately 115,000 pounds ($216,000 Cdn), as reported by the Cheshire Constabulary on Thursday.
Detective Sergeant Gary McClatchy emphasized the importance of the lawful acquisition of Guinness by stating, “It is famously said that ‘Guinness is good for you,’ but that is only the case when it has been bought and paid for. We will not rest until all the stolen items are fully recovered.”
This incident follows a recent beer theft in the United States that garnered public attention due to the brewery’s humorous social media posts regarding the loss of approximately 34,000 cans of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer. The stolen Guinness was originally intended for distribution to pubs but was intercepted on Monday night by two drivers at an industrial park in Runcorn. The thieves made off with the trailers containing about 800 barrels of stout. The trailers themselves were estimated to be worth 50,000 pounds ($93,000).
In a separate incident, the theft of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer from a warehouse in Southern California was valued at $70,000 US ($97,000 Cdn) by the police. The company responsible for manufacturing Pabst Blue Ribbon offered a $20,000 US reward for any information leading to the recovery of the stolen beer.
Responding to the theft on social media, the brewery wrote, “To the thief: we don’t fault you for wanting to brag to your friends how much PBR you have, we just wish you obtained it the honorable way. P.s. this is real and we are deadly serious.”
