Viewers of Emmerdale will find out wat’s really going on with John Sugden next week, and with that they may find out if their Anthony Fox theories are correct.
Viewers saw John help dispose of the body of murdered Anthony weeks ago on the ITV soap, before he buried the corpse in an undisclosed location. But as those covering up the crime demanded to know the truth, John led them to a spot in the woods claiming this was where Anthony was buried.
But fans were not convinced, believing he was lying about the location for an unknown reason. Fans are not the only ones left suspicious next week though, as more than one character is left confronting the medic after making a discovery.
Caleb Miligan actor Will Ash has teased all, revealing the Miligans realise John might be lying about this being the burial place. It’s his daughter Steph, who is spiralling after recent revelations, that alerts her parents to the fact something isn’t right.
As she continues to spiral she heads to the woods and begins clawing at the ground, looking for the body it seems. Speaking to The Mirror and other press, actor Will teased this could be the moment mystery John is exposed, if he’s lying, and Steph might be his downfall.
He explained: “She’s vulnerable and she’s trying to make sense of it all in her head. She goes off to where Anthony is buried and she’s in a really, really bad place. I don’t think Ruby and Caleb realise how bad a place she’s in because they find her clawing at the ground to see if he’s there or to get closure.”
On the moment Steph highlights that something might not be buried there after all, Will explained: “It is Steph who makes them realise there might not be anybody buried there. They question the logic of what you have to do to dig into this ground, you’d need a mechanical digger and John hasn’t got access to one, so suspicions start.”
Will didn’t give away what happens next or what John has to say for himself. Spoilers have revealed that with the soil undisturbed they question whether Anthony is dead after all.
It comes as Emmerdale announced some special flashback scenes for this week as we finally learn the truth about John. John arrived in the village a few months ago, the half-brother of Victoria Sugden.
The enigmatic character – who is played by former Coronation Street star Oliver Farnworth – has been hiding a big secret from his now fiancé Aaron Dingle and the rest of the village. With an army background, John kept quite quiet about his past – but it is clear that he is hiding some things about his past and himself that even his husband-to-be doesn’t know.
In some special flashback scenes next week, viewers will learn the truth about John Sugden – and with a wedding on the cards, will Aaron finally get to know who the man he is committing to really is?
Emmerdale producer, Laura Shaw, said: “Since enigmatic and inscrutable John Sugden arrived on our screens last summer, he’s managed to hide some pretty big secrets from his family and friends. As his clandestine acts are revealed, the audience has an opportunity to really get inside John’s mind and to finally understand exactly what this mysterious character is really about.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads .
