The Royal Canadian Mounted Police confirmed the death of a 47-year-old man in a collision involving two commercial transport trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway in central Newfoundland. The incident occurred near Gullbridge, also known as Gull Pond Bridge, between Badger and South Brook, with police arriving at the crash site shortly after 2:15 a.m. NT on Tuesday.
Upon arrival, both vehicles were engulfed in flames. The driver of one of the trucks, a 47-year-old man heading east, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the westbound tractor-trailer sustained severe injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment, where they remain under care.
As a result of the police response, a section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Badger and South Brook was shut down for several hours on Tuesday. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the collision, with the case still under review.
