A couple who were both on Love Island are said to have made the decision to split up recently. The news comes just months after one of them appeared to go public with their romance in a post on social media about going on a date.
Jack Fowler, 28, and Joanna Chimondes, also 28 – who appeared on separate series of the ITV2 show – are thought to have dated on and off in recent years. Jack seemed to confirm that they were together in a post on his TikTok page in February, which showed the pair out on a “date”.
It has now been reported that they decided to part ways recently after their friendship progressed into “something more” last year. A source told The Sun that they had “tried to make it work” but felt that it “wouldn’t work long-term”.
The source said: “Joanna and Jack tried to make it work but ultimately they’ve decided to separate a few weeks ago. They’ve been friends for years and enjoyed a flirty friendship which progressed into something more last year.”
As reported by the outlet this week, the source said that Jack and Joanna had wanted to “keep it quiet” and “be in the moment” before “going public”. They reportedly decided it “wouldn’t work long-term” after “clashing” though.
The source said: “They’ve struggled to maintain a friendship and have even decided to unfollow each other on social media.” They added that Joanna has been seeking support from friends whilst Jack is said to have been busy with work.
The pair are both best known for having appeared on Love Island years ago. Joanna and Jack took part in different series of the reality TV star, with him appearing as an islander first, before she made her debut the following year.
Jack appeared on the fourth series of Love Island, which aired in 2018. He was an islander in the villa for several weeks alongside the likes of Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham, who went on to be crowned the winners of the series in the final.
He was coupled-up with Laura Anderson and then Laura Crane, whom he was dumped from the villa with just days before the final, on the show that year. They decided to remain as friends after leaving the villa though.
Joanna made her first appearance as an islander the following year when she took part in the fifth series. She was on the show for just over two weeks before being dumped from the villa.
She had been coupled up with Michael Griffiths for the duration of her stint in the villa. He had previously been coupled up with Amber Gill – who went on to win with Greg O’Shea – but decided to pursue a romance with Joanna after her arrival instead. Joanna and Michael ended up parting ways though.
More recently, Joanna returned as an islander on Love Island: All Stars. She was among the celebrities who took part in the first series of the spin-off, which launched last year.
Whilst in the villa for the second time, she was coupled-up with Chris Taylor before being dumped from the villa. The co-stars didn’t pursue a romance following the final, which was won by Molly Smith and Tom Clare, though.
