Tyson Fury’s manager provides cryptic update on retired boxer’s future

Must read

Tyson Fury‘s manager Spencer Brown has revealed the two-time heavyweight champion is still retired, but is struggling with boredom. Back in January, the ‘Gypsy King’ shocked the boxing world after announcing his retirement.

Fury made the announcement in a short video. “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet,” he said to the camera. “I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it. I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. Get up!”

The Brit announced his decision just weeks after suffering his second defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh. Immediately after the loss, many had hoped Fury would finally go head-to-head with fellow British heavyweight Anthony Joshua in 2025, but that is now seemingly unlikely.

Fury has since been enjoying the retirement life and was recently seen taking his family to Disneyland Paris. Tyson, his wife Paris, and their seven kids spent the day at the park, enjoying the rides and attractions. In February, the 36-year-old took to Instagram to show off him having breakfast with the Manchester United’s greatest ever manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, in Cheshire.

“However, his manager, has revealed he has spoken to the former world champion and believes his retirement decision is genuine, even if he continues to train constantly. He told iFL TV: “I spoke to him last week, he’s really happy. Really happy. He’s getting a little bit bored but he was really happy.

“I think he went to a nice birthday party over the weekend and had a few beers. Just speaking to him gives you a bit of light in your life because he makes you smile and he doesn’t anything too seriously.

“Is he going to fight again? He’s retired. He might be getting a little bit bored at the moment but that’s just a natural thing. He’s just enjoying himself, he’s running everyday. He’s really looking good. He’s tanned, he’s fit. He looks good. I was quite surprised when I saw him. He’s usually eating Jelly Babies and sweets but this time none of that. He’s proper on his diet.”

Top Rank COO Brad Jacobs recently claimed that the heavyweight star could be tempted out of retirement by a potential fight with Joshua. Speaking to Sky Sports about the potential fight, Jacobs said: “He looks like he’s happy retired and doing it, but he’s done that before.

“But if not God bless him, he’s earned what he’s got. I believe there is the potential for it. What happens nobody knows. Tyson has done shocking things before, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he did it again.”

As well as that, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman suggested the Brit could be handed an interim world title shot if he does choose to return. He said: “We will [support an undisputed heavyweight title fight] and we will assess what is happening, what is the best scenario.

“[Kabayel] has the WBC interim championship that [he] can defend. He [Fury] retired, as you may recall, and the WBC supported him to fight Wilder, the first time and he made a hell of a fight. I spoke to him. He told me he’s retired and I congratulated him. You go out and you have a beautiful family, you’re a multi-millionaire. But boxers have something. It is very difficult to step aside but I’m happy he’s retired. If he’s to change his mind and give it a try, I’m sure the medicals will be good, the option is open.”
