The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed the specifics of the tentative agreement struck with the Calgary-based airline following a brief one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) highlighted key elements of the deal, including an increment of more than 18% in wages over a three-year period and the introduction of a novel “duty period premium” to compensate for ground work. Additionally, the agreement encompasses enhanced time off allowances and increased provisions for food and uniform expenses.
Amid the long weekend holiday, WestJet flights throughout much of Canada were suspended as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to initiate strike action. However, a resolution was reached between the airline and the union early on Monday, leading to a gradual resumption of WestJet operations to normal levels. The next step involves the cabin crew members voting on the proposed deal in the upcoming weeks.
