Kerry Needham, a mother in search of her missing son Ben Needham, is showing her support for the ‘Jay’s Law’ petition. She has been deeply affected by false information spread on social media platforms, describing the experience as hurtful and distressing. Kerry, now residing in Turkey, has faced a barrage of fake headlines online, including claims of Ben’s death and a misleading photo suggesting Ben was found inside a blue box.

Expressing her frustration, Kerry emphasizes the negative impact of such misleading content, labeling it as clickbait and highlighting the emotional toll it takes. Despite her efforts to report these misleading posts to social media companies, she feels ignored and unheard, leading to a constant battle against misinformation.

Ben disappeared 34 years ago on July 24, 1991, while playing outside a farmhouse in Kos, Greece, where his grandfather was working. Kerry, who was working in a nearby hotel at the time, has been tirelessly advocating for Ben’s case and raising awareness through social media.

In solidarity with Debbie’s petition, Kerry stresses the need for social media platforms to take responsibility for the distress caused by false information. She points out that such misinformation not only affects families like hers but also hinders genuine efforts to gather accurate information about missing persons.

Reflecting on the challenges she faces, Kerry shares her experiences of defending herself against baseless accusations and confronting individuals who spread false narratives about Ben’s disappearance. Despite the hardships, she remains hopeful that initiatives like ‘Jay’s Law’ will bring about positive changes in how social media handles sensitive issues like missing persons cases.

Kerry urges people to seek facts from verified sources and engage responsibly with information related to missing persons, emphasizing the importance of basing opinions on truth rather than rumors. She acknowledges the difficulties of navigating online spaces filled with misleading content but remains determined to fight against misinformation for the sake of her son and others in similar situations.
