Joanna Page, a 48-year-old actress known for her role in Gavin and Stacey, recently shared a harrowing experience of being abducted by a taxi driver. She recounted being threatened by the driver, who menacingly suggested stripping her clothes off during the 90-minute ordeal. Joanna expressed feeling intense fear during the incident, describing it as the only time she believed she was in grave danger.
During the distressing situation, Joanna recalled thinking, “This is serious. You can’t get yourself out of this. I don’t know what I’m going to do.” Despite the terrifying circumstances, she managed to engage the driver in conversation while being driven around until she was eventually returned safely to her hotel.
After escaping the ordeal, Joanna immediately sought help from the hotel staff, recounting the traumatic experience to them. Gratefully, she was advised that she had narrowly escaped a dangerous situation and was urged never to repeat such an experience.
The disturbing incident reportedly occurred in 2004 while Joanna was in South Africa filming for the BBC series To The Ends of The Earth. Interestingly, her co-star Benedict Cumberbatch allegedly faced a similar kidnapping attempt just weeks later.
At the time of the incident, Joanna was married to fellow actor James Thornton, with whom she shares four children. Addressing recent rumors of marital discord, Joanna clarified that her relationship with James is strong, referring to him as “wonderful” and dispelling any speculation of an impending divorce.
Clarifying a misunderstanding regarding a lockdown-related comment that was misconstrued as marital strife, Joanna emphasized her deep affection for her husband, stating, “I utterly adore him. He’s wonderful.” She highlighted the challenges of balancing a busy family life but expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reconnect with James now that their children are older.
