Amazon has launched a new ultra-fast grocery delivery service that promises to deliver orders in under 30 minutes. Customers can choose from a wide selection of groceries and household essentials, ranging from fresh produce to everyday items like diapers and medications.

This move pits Amazon against traditional supermarkets that already offer rapid delivery services through partnerships with delivery companies. Amazon’s decision to introduce this service follows the closure of its Amazon Fresh grocery stores last September, signaling a shift towards online delivery services.

The new service, called Amazon Now, is currently being tested in selected areas of London and utilizes bike couriers. Amazon Flex will be used to recruit delivery riders, who will not be direct employees of the company. John Boumphrey, Amazon UK country manager, highlighted the convenience and speed of Amazon Now, emphasizing the company’s commitment to fast delivery for its customers.

In addition to launching its own ultra-fast delivery service, Amazon partnered with Gopuff last year to offer quick delivery options for various products. Prime members can enjoy discounted delivery fees starting from £1.99 per order, while non-Prime members pay £3.99. There is a flat £2 fee for orders under £15, irrespective of membership status. Prime members already benefit from free, fast delivery on a wide range of items.

Amazon plans to expand the Amazon Now service in the coming months, aiming to make shopping more convenient, faster, and affordable for customers across the UK. The company’s decision to focus on online delivery services aligns with its strategy to meet the growing demand for quick and efficient grocery and household essentials delivery.
