A man is facing a substantial medical bill after injuring his leg when a shower door shattered while he was on vacation. Kaylum Jones, 28, needed surgery after the incident in Egypt, resulting in a bill of £35,000.

During his trip to Egypt with his partner, the shower door shattered on the second day, severing an artery in Kaylum’s leg. His sister, Chantele, mentioned that the injury was severe, and Kaylum feared for his life.

Upon reaching the hospital for surgery, Kaylum discovered that his travel insurance did not cover the necessary healthcare expenses. He had forgotten to secure insurance in the UK and only did so upon arriving in Egypt.

Chantele shared that Kaylum lost a significant amount of blood, with his partner managing insurance details while he underwent emergency surgery. Kaylum was conscious during the operation, leaving the family anxiously waiting for updates throughout the day.

To aid in covering the medical costs for Kaylum’s return home, Chantele and her family have launched a GoFundMe page. Despite taking out loans, they are still burdened by the expenses.

An online fundraiser has generated £4,000 to date. As Kaylum recuperates from the surgery in Milton Keynes, preparations are being made for his journey home. Chantele emphasizes the importance of obtaining travel insurance before departing the UK to prevent such financial burdens.

She noted that additional skin graft surgery may be necessary for her brother upon his return. Despite language barriers, Kaylum received excellent care during his recovery in Egypt.
