England faced a devastating defeat as Travis Head’s outstanding performance led Australia to their first victory in the Ashes series. Head, who was elevated in the batting order due to an injury to Usman Khawaja, guided Australia to victory as they chased down the target of 205 set by England, who were bowled out for 164 in their second innings.

Despite a solid effort by Ben Stokes and the English team on the first day, where they were dismissed for 172 on a pitch favoring batsmen, Australia exerted pressure at the Optus Stadium. However, the tourists responded well before the subsequent day’s play.

Ben Stokes’ five-wicket haul left Australia struggling at 123-9 going into the morning session. After adding nine runs to their overnight total, the Aussies were eventually all out, giving England a 40-run lead after both teams completed their innings.

Although England seemed in control before lunch, they suffered a collapse, losing nine wickets for 99 runs in the afternoon session. Travis Head’s exceptional batting display propelled Australia to a comfortable victory.

Head’s remarkable innings of 123 runs off 83 deliveries, including 16 boundaries and four sixes, was the highlight of the match. While England’s bowlers performed well in Australia’s first innings, they struggled in the second, failing to contain Head’s onslaught.

In individual performances, Zak Crawley endured a disappointing outing with a first pair in his career, while Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope showed promise but couldn’t prevent England’s downfall. Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, and others also faced challenges in their contributions as Australia dominated the proceedings, securing a crucial win in the series.
