Several roads have been closed by police as Pro-Palestine demonstrators gathered at a drone manufacturing facility and reportedly affixed themselves to the top of a van.

Leicestershire Police responded to a call before 5:15 am today regarding the incident at UAV Tactical Systems in Braunstone Town. Authorities stated that a van had apparently collided with bollards outside the factory, with individuals locking themselves onto the van’s roof and a fence.

A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of being prepared for locking on, a term used for individuals who attach themselves to structures. She is currently in police custody, and officers are on-site managing the situation.

As a result, all routes surrounding the business park have been sealed off to the public, including the closure of Meridian East to Centurion Way. Traffic diversions are advised in the affected areas around Meridian East and Blue Bell Wood.

Witnesses observed smoke emerging from the location around 7 am, although the source is yet to be determined. The Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has been seen at the scene.

People Against Genocide, a group advocating for Palestine, has taken responsibility for the morning’s protests. They have accused UAV Tactical Systems’ main shareholder, Elbit Systems, of being the largest arms manufacturer in Israel. However, a representative from UAV Tactical Systems clarified last year that they do not supply the Israeli military or Ministry of Defence.

In a statement, Leicestershire Police mentioned that a van intentionally hit bollards at Meridian Business Park early this morning. They discovered individuals locking themselves onto the van’s roof and a nearby fence.

The police emphasized supporting peaceful protests but warned of immediate action against those engaging in criminal activities or property damage.

The UAV factory has been a target for protests in recent years, with demonstrations organized by various groups. In May, the Leicester Palestine Solidarity Campaign orchestrated a procession resembling a funeral as employees left the factory at the end of the day.
