Gerwyn Price makes huge Luke Littler prediction: ‘We cannot stop him’

Must read

Gerwyn Price extended his hoodoo against Luke Littler to six wins in a row – but admitted the boy wonder’s teenage rampage is unstoppable.

The ‘Iceman’ beat Littler 6-3 in Thursday night’s Premier League final in Nottingham, but Luke the Nuke still went top of the table after the world champion’s earlier win over previous front-runner Luke Humphries. And resurgent Price tipped Litter to go on and beat Phil Taylor ’s record haul of 16 world titles because none of the Professional Darts Corporation’s old guard look capable of stopping him.

Price said: “Luke Littler is the best player in the world at the minute – and he is going to be for some years. At Pro Tours I sit on a table with James Wade and Jim Williams and we talk about him all the time.

“I think he will beat Phil’s record of 16 world titles. There’s nobody in the PDC who will stop him. There’s only the younger generation, people on the JDC (Junior Darts Corporation), who are going to stop him. We cannot stop him, he’s only going to get better and better.

“I cannot praise him enough, he has done wonders for this sport. We all need to start winning now because in the next couple of years he will be unbeatable. Luke has taken it to another level. He sits on his own, sits on his phone, but he’s incredible.

“Six on the bounce is nice but I don’t think I have a big weapon against him. It’s probably similar at the minute to when I lost 19 on the bounce against Michael van Gerwen – it’s more him than me.

“I don’t think it will bother him too much, but the longer it goes on, it will probably get under his skin. I don’t think it’s what I am doing, it’s the way he is thinking a little bit at the minute.

“When you get one, two, three, four, five wins on the bounce, then he probably starts thinking about it a little bit more than I do – I just get up there and play. This time it was a bit scrappy – he missed some doubles, I took my chances and won. It’s probably in his head a little bit, but I am sure over the next couple of weeks or months that will change.

“He’s too good not to beat me and beat everyone else. I am happy he’s in my pocket for a little while but I am not sure for how long. I think he just falls a little bit against me. Sometimes I do play really well against him, like I did in Bahrain. I didn’t play that well in Nottingham and it was probably more in his head than the way I was playing – I hope that continues.”

Next week, Price will be competing on home soil in front of a fervent crowd in Cardiff. He could face Littler again in the semi-finals if they win their opening matches against Rob Cross and Nathan Aspinall respectively.
