Must read

Netflix subscribers might soon have a new favourite reality show and viewers say it’s perfect for Squid Game fans.

In a Reddit discussion titled ‘The best reality show on Netflix?’ one TV fanatic appealed to others on the platform for recommendations of the best real-life shows on the streamer.

Another Redditor was quick to suggest The Devil’s Plan, which boasts an impressive 92 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.

Having premiered in September 2023, the Korean series is slated to release its second season later this year.

Directed by Jung Jong-yeon, who previously helmed popular Korean gameshow The Genius, the series places 12 celebrity contestants into a Big Brother-style house for seven days.

Season one saw actors such as Ha Seok-jin (Drinking Solo) and Lee See-won (The Tunnel) vying for a prize pot of up to ₩500 million (£266,411.60).

In order to win the money, the group take part in various collaborative and competitive games, including board games and complex social deduction scenarios. Their IQs and alliances are tested over the course of a week, where one person will ultimately reign victorious.

Netflix’s synopsis teases: “Over the course of seven days, participants compete in battles of intelligence twice a day until the final round, when one of them is crowned victor and rakes in all the prize money.

“In this game, they can do absolutely everything and anything they want — without violence or stealing — in order to win.”

The show’s first winner took home a staggering ₩250 million (£133,213).

Since its 2023 debut, viewers have been raving about the series, with many recommending it to Squid Game fans. Taking to Reddit to share their verdict, one fan gushed: “The Devil’s Plan is one of the best competitive reality shows in a while.”

The same person continued, adding: “I fully recommend it if you’re into strategy games or an old school Survivor fan/enjoy Squid Game or Alice in Borderlands.”

Over on IMDB, the Netflix gameshow boasts an 8.3 out of ten star-rating, with one review praising: “I have never been so engrossed in a game show! I was barely paying attention when the first episode started but by the end I was hooked and jumping straight into the next episode.”

Another social media review echoes the praise: “I recently discovered Devil’s Plan on Netflix, and it’s an absolute gem of a Korean reality show! It’s thrilling, unpredictable, and keeps you hooked from start to finish. The intense mind games and strategies had me on the edge of my seat […].”

Yet another viewer took to Google Reviews and raved: “Best TV reality show I have ever watched. Absolutely loved it!”
