Big Brother legend Makosi Musambasi’s life now 20 years on from her iconic hot tub antics

Must read

The Big Brother house is open once again – currently housing a string of headline-grabbing housemates in this year’s Celebrity Big Brother.

The show is known for some iconic moments across both versions of the show – one of which saw Makosi Musambasi raise eyebrows in a very raunchy hot tub scene in Big Brother 6. The Zimbabwean model made history as the first African contestant in the sixth series of the reality show, and quickly became an overnight sensation after her raunchy hot tub encounter with Anthony Hutton.

Makosi was just 25 when she entered the house in 2005, when she was seen in passionate clinch with Anthony in front of several of her fellow housemates. The action was so saucy that bosses were forced to edit the pair’s encounter in a bid to make it less X-rated.

In the now-viral moment, Makosi was later seen heading to the Diary Room to request a pregnancy test as she was ’90 to 100% sure’ she was pregnant – however, Anthony denied the pair had full sex and Makosi also later denied the pair went the whole way.

Makosi was not pregnant and made it all the way to the show’s final, where she finished in third place but was met with a mix of boos and cheers from the crowd as she left the house. Despite her headline-grabbing antics in the hot tub, Makosi has since revealed she has no regrets.

She told new! magazine in 2020: “[I look back] with fond memories and nostalgia. The Makosi who went on Big Brother was a free bird. I look at her today and I’m proud she did that for herself. I get teary when I think about it.”

Although she used to work as a cardiac nurse in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, after graduating from the University of Luton, she now resides in Dubai and works as a life coach and public speaker.

Her new career has clearly earned her a lavish lifestyle as she regularly posts snaps of herself playing golf or working out in the gym. Meanwhile, she also recently posted a video of herself stood infront of a lavish BMW X4 car, which range in value from £16,000 to over £65,000.

Not only does her career appear to afford her a lavish lifestyle, but it also appears to be earning her awards, too. In January the star posted a string of snaps of herself clinching an award on her Instagram and wrote an inspirational message in the caption. She penned: “A woman is only as powerful as the women she surrounds herself with! It is paramount to provide access for women coming up behind you because no matter how educated one is, without the right access one might not reach their fullest potential! The women around you are like your social CV so choose your company well.”

Makosi is also a best-selling author, having penned the inspirational book Self Love: The Ultimate Choice in 2013. And as the founder and CEO of Africa Media Inc., Makosi is a powerhouse in the media industry, creating and distributing content across the continent.

She also regularly posts fitness content on her Instagram page, too. She recently revealed that her battle with cancer inspired her to do so. As she posted a photo of herself in the gym, Makosi wrote in the caption: “Fitness is not what I do it’s who I am ! I’ve been conscious my health and fitness for about two decades now ! It has always been my identity, so I don’t stay motivated, it is who I am.

“The fitness journey is never perfect, fit people meet challenges along the way like I survived breast cancer 8 years ago and emerged stronger than ever. That experience reshaped my perspective on health and fitness. It taught me the importance of resilience and the power of the human spirit. Facing such a daunting challenge made me appreciate every workout, every healthy meal, and every moment of self-care even more deeply.“Throughout my recovery, I realized that fitness was not just about aesthetics or performance; it was about reclaiming my life and my strength. I found solace in movement, whether it was gentle yoga, strength training, or simply taking long walks. Each step was a reminder of my determination to overcome and thrive.

“Sharing my story has become a vital part of my identity. I want others to know that setbacks can be transformed into comebacks. I’ve connected with fellow survivors and fitness enthusiasts, forming bonds that go beyond physical activity. Together, we inspire each other to keep pushing forward, to embrace our scars as symbols of our journeys rather than signs of defeat.”She added: “Now, I advocate for awareness and support for those battling cancer, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle during and after treatment. My journey has become a beacon of hope, proving that fitness is not just a destination but a powerful tool for healing and empowerment. It’s about living fully, with intention and passion, no matter the obstacles we face.”

Makosi’s life has been a rollercoaster ride since the Big Brother house. In 2017, Makosi announced that she’d had a mastectomy and chemotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Speaking to OK! magazine, the telly star revealed battling the disease destroyed her confidence. She explained: “So what happened is that I had breast cancer in 2017. And I had a mastectomy and chemotherapy.

“I lost my hair and I almost lost my identity. And when I was doing my radiation, I was looking for that thing to give me back my confidence again.

“Because at this point you’re looking in the mirror, you’re bald and you don’t know who this new person is. Where did the confidence go? Where did the courage go? Where did the lioness in me go?”

The star hasn’t only faced difficult times with her health as, according to reports, Makosi was deported from the UK and is now believed to be banned from Britain.

Makosi had reportdly been living in the UK on a visa that allowed her to stay as long as she worked for the NHS. It’s said that Makosi was granted a sabbatical by the NHS, but it was withdrawn when it was discovered she was using it to do Big Brother. She was given an ultimatum – choose between her job or the show. Makosi reportedly opted for Big Brother and was given just 10 days to leave the UK or appeal against the decision.

Despite fighting the decision and applying for asylum, Makosi reportedly faced rejection and was allowed to stay under refugee status. She eventually decided to move to Nigeria, where she pursued a new career as a life coach and media mogul. But today, she is a best-selling author with a new book in the works that chronicles her journey battling the cancer. And despite her busy schedule, Makosi still finds time for her hobbies, including golf. She currently resides in the United Arab Emirates.
