Mum puts £3million Omaze home up for sale – but encounters problem

Must read

A mum-of-three who put her luxurious home she won in an Omaze prize draw up for sale last year is still waiting for a buyer.

Rachael Reid, 54, claimed the incredible six-bed bungalow near Farnham, Surrey, last July. She scooped the property, which boasts a 40ft indoor heated swimming pool and a gym across 1.4acres, by forking out just £10 for the competition.

Deciding to cash in, she listed the sale on Rightmove, via Savills, back in December for £2,950,000.

However, according to the listing that the Mirror has found, the asking price was slashed by some £200,000 on March 25.

It is now being advertised for being available at £2,750,000, which would still be a life-changing return for Rachael and her husband of 30 years Darren who spent a few months living in the property before deciding to let it go.

As for why she was ditching it in exchange for millions, the mum, from Inverness, previously said: “I still can’t believe it really happened to us – winning a multi-million-pound house in Surrey has changed our lives forever. We’ve really enjoyed spending time at the house – it’s been magical and the whole family has loved it. All the locals have been lovely and welcoming – it’s a fantastic area.

“The money I also got as part of my big win means if we wanted to, we could stay here for years and never have to worry about any costs – but we love where we live now, so we’ve decided to sell up and cash in – so we can buy an amazing house a bit closer to all our family and friends in Scotland.

“The money from the sale will change everything for the entire family – it’s just incredible – we’re all so excited for the future – we might even build our very own Omazing house!

“Entering Omaze was the best decision I ever made – I wish anyone who enters the best of luck, if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone!”

On the listing on Rightmove, estate agents Savills said: “This immaculate six bedroom property has been developed to a very high standard to create a contemporary country home with stylish interiors throughout.”

The renovated bungalow includes a detached pool house boasting of a shower, gym, sauna and changing room. Outside the front door, a large gravel driveway with double carport leads to solid wood electric gates.

It has been refurbished with a modern architectural design with a huge entrance hallway leading to a drawing room with a vaulted ceiling that overlooks the private back garden. One feature includes a Purbeck stone chimney fireplace.

Oak flooring dominates the kitchen and dining area that includes an island with a breakfast bar. There is also a spacious living room, a study and a master bedroom that has a seating area, French doors to the patio, a walk in closet and a stunning en suite bathroom.

The house also has an outdoor kitchen with concrete worktops and built in cupboards and an outdoor open fireplace. The 1.4acre grounds also includes landscaped gardens and a wooded area.

Savills called it a “sought-after village” with the country home is based four miles from Farnham and 8.9miles from Guildford. They added that the area is “well-located” for commuters.

Upon its listing, a representative from Omaze remarked: “Whatever their circumstances, all Omaze winners have several fantastic life changing options available to them. Omaze is immensely proud to have created 35 millionaires whilst also raising more than £81 million for good causes in the UK since it launched here.”

Savills estate agents were contacted about the price reduction before this story was published but declined to comment.
