Matthew Coleman, 45, expressed optimism to a friend shortly before perpetrating a horrific act. Despite appearing content with his family life, Coleman had fallen into a world of false conspiracy theories and delusions. Without warning, he left his wife, Abby, behind while taking their two children, Kaleo and Roxy, on a camping trip.

Abby, unaware of her husband’s troubled state, reported the children missing when they did not return home as planned. Search efforts led authorities to Mexico, where Coleman had taken the children. Despite Abby’s belief that the children were safe, tragedy struck when Coleman allegedly brutally murdered them with a spearfishing gun at a ranch in Rosarito.

Following the heinous act, Coleman disposed of evidence and crossed back into the US, where he was arrested. During interrogations, he confessed, citing his belief in debunked conspiracy theories as the motive behind the killings. Abby, who also delved into these theories, noted her husband’s escalating paranoia.

Coleman, declared unfit for trial, remains in protective custody due to self-harm attempts and an unclear mental state. His actions, driven by unfounded beliefs, have left a community in shock and a family shattered by an unimaginable loss.
