Daisy May Cooper says she was ‘sacked’ from old job as she makes stealing admission

Must read

Daisy May Cooper revealed she was “sacked” from her previous job before finding fame. The This Country star almost admits she stole stock from the shop she worked at.

The 38-year-old admits she held “loads of jobs” before joining the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London. Among them were roles at pub chain Wetherspoon and department store House of Fraser.

Daisy says she struggled to hold down most of the jobs she had. The star was quizzed about her career before acting school on the Making A Scene podcast with Matt Lucas and David Walliams.

When asked what she did before joining RADA, Daisy explained: “”I did loads of other jobs that I got sacked from.”

Former Britain’s Got Talent judge David quizzed Daisy about why she was fired. She responded: “Stealing, or not turning up. I stole a load of Levi’s from House of Fraser.”

When pressed about the admission, Daisy said she took “f****** loads” of jeans from her former employer before selling them on. She revealed she was never however caught taking the stock.

She added: “They’ve gone into administration now. It happened ages ago, like 2004.”

The actress has previously spoken about her time at RADA, revealing she “felt poor” after moving from Cirencester in Gloucestershire to London. At one point, £3,000 short of her costs, her parents had to sell their family home due to redundancy, leading Daisy and her mother to take up cleaning jobs, reports Gloucestershire Live.

Speaking to The Times, she said: “The difficulty was the loan didn’t cover accommodation in London. That was the struggle.”

Having returned to the West Country after attending drama school, Daisy revealed her drinking spiralled out of control. In October, she said: “I went to rehab and I’ve been sober for a year and a half.”

Daisy’s television career saw her appearing in the likes of Doc Martin and The Wrong Mans. It was during her early days that, alongside brother Charlie, she began to write what would later become This Country.

In 2014, the pair reprotedly pitched an unreleased film called Kerry, which was the foundation to the hit BBC sitcom. This Country, a series which takes a humorous look at life in the Cotswolds countryside, following the day-to-day lives of two cousins in a mockumentary style, was released in 2017.

It picked up the Best Comedy award at the 2018 BAFTAs with Daisy winning the Best Female Comedy Performance category. After the series concluded in 2020, Daisy followed it up by releasing Am I Being Unreasonable? in which she plays a mother stuck in a depressing marriage.

She later released a book, Hexy B****, examining the paranormal. Daisy has spoken candidly about her belief in the paranormal.

As a child, she says her mother Gillian would take them to psychic evenings after Daisy’s aunt Alison died in a car crash. She explained: “My mum was desperate to prove Alison had gone somewhere and her life wasn’t just meaningless, otherwise it’s just awful. So as a kid I was dragged round to all these psychic evenings in seedy back rooms of pubs.”
