An unfortunate incident occurred at a Moto service station, leading to the sudden demise of a man due to a medical emergency. The station had to be temporarily closed, causing disruptions in traffic earlier today.

At 10.05 am this morning, emergency services swiftly responded to Birch services on the M62 eastbound near Heywood, Greater Manchester.

Authorities from the Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 50-year-old man experienced a suspected heart attack while in his vehicle. Tragically, he was declared deceased at the site.

Reports from The Manchester Evening News revealed that the family of the deceased individual has been informed of the tragic event and is receiving assistance from specialized officers.

Access to the Moto service station was temporarily restricted from the M62 eastbound earlier today as emergency teams managed the situation.

The slip road was reopened around midday. Moto is yet to provide a statement regarding the incident.

Following a night of severe weather causing local flooding, the morning witnessed some delays on the M62 due to chaotic conditions, affecting motorists for hours.

The adverse weather conditions, warned by the Met Office for strong winds and heavy rain, led to lane closures on the motorway near Huddersfield, resulting in traffic congestion on the westbound side.

Traffic England classified the situation as “severe” on its monitoring platform, cautioning individuals to take extra care on slippery roads. Other motorways like the M56, M6, and M61 were also impacted by the weather conditions.

In the Met Office’s yellow alert for the Midlands and northern England, including the affected M62 area, people were advised to check road conditions before traveling.

The agency recommended, “Ensure you are well-informed about road conditions if driving, or public transport schedules, and adjust your travel plans accordingly to avoid delays.”

Although the severe rain and wind warnings expired early this morning around 3 am, challenging conditions persisted in some regions as earlier disruptions started to clear.
