The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is urging vulnerable individuals to arrange appointments for two crucial vaccinations starting this month. Receiving these vaccines can boost your immunity and potentially lower the chances of severe illness symptoms during the upcoming autumn season.

In a recent announcement, the UK Government agency stated that as of now, all eligible individuals can receive their NHS COVID-19 and flu vaccines. Appointments can be booked through various channels such as the NHS App, local GP practices, online portals, or by calling 119.

COVID-19 vaccines are specifically designed to provide protection against the virus, particularly for high-risk groups. While most individuals may not require a booster shot, the NHS typically offers additional doses to those at a heightened risk of severe complications.

Regarding the winter COVID-19 vaccination, priority groups include:

– Individuals aged 65 and over
– People with certain underlying health conditions
– Pregnant women
– Health and social care workers
– Household contacts of immunocompromised individuals
– Carers

Similarly, flu vaccines are aimed at safeguarding individuals against influenza. UKHSA previously outlined that six main groups were eligible for flu vaccinations starting from September 1 this year, with an additional six groups becoming eligible from October 1.

Eligibility for vaccinations can be checked using the NHS app, and these vaccinations are available at GP surgeries, select pharmacies, maternity services, and care facilities.

The NHS also highlights that healthcare and social care workers might be able to receive vaccinations at their workplace. While a flu shot can be administered concurrently with other vaccines like COVID-19 and shingles, it is typically not given alongside the RSV vaccine unless a healthcare professional deems it necessary.

Dr. Amanda Doyle, National Director for Primary Care and Community Services at NHS England, emphasized the importance of vaccinations in combating flu and COVID-19 cases ahead of the winter season. She encouraged all eligible individuals to get vaccinated promptly, with easy appointment booking options now accessible closer to home.

The NHS has initiated a mass vaccination campaign, sending out over 12 million invites via email, with additional invitations via the NHS App, text messages, and letters to follow throughout the month. However, eligible individuals do not need to wait for an invitation to book their vaccinations.
