Chris Froome, a renowned figure in cycling, remains in high spirits as he progresses in his recovery journey following a harrowing accident that nearly cost him his life. The esteemed cyclist, known for clinching four Tour de France titles from 2013 to 2017, underwent critical surgery after a mishap in the south of France earlier this month.
After a terrifying incident where Froome collided with a road sign at a high speed due to clipping the curb, the 40-year-old was swiftly airlifted to a medical facility. His team, Israel-Premier Tech, disclosed that Froome sustained severe injuries including a pneumothorax, five fractured ribs, and a lumbar vertebrae fracture, in addition to a collapsed lung and a broken back.
Michelle, Froome’s wife, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that his injuries extended beyond mere fractures and that his recovery process will be lengthy, preventing him from cycling for an extended period. Nonetheless, Froome demonstrated positive progress by attending the Pho3nix Foundation Sport With Purpose Charity Gala 2025 in Zurich.
During the event, Froome expressed his motivation to hasten his rehabilitation and participate in the gala, highlighting his eagerness for the anticipated occasion. The accident occurred when Froome was traveling at speeds exceeding 30mph, resulting in a pericardial rupture, a tear in the sac surrounding the heart, which was successfully addressed at the specialized Sainte Anne Toulon military hospital.
