At their inaugural conference, Your Party leaders aimed to move past internal conflicts. Jeremy Corbyn, the former Labour chief, urged unity among over 2,000 delegates, stressing the need to come together for a common goal.
Although there were rumors of disruptions, the event proceeded smoothly, with only a single disruptive attendee. Your Party has faced internal turmoil since its launch, with issues including donation disputes and the departure of two independent MPs benefiting rival parties like the Greens.
Corbyn emphasized the importance of solidarity and collective action, urging attendees to embrace the opportunity to advocate for socialism and social justice. However, the conference faced turmoil as former Labour MP Zarah Sultana criticized expulsions from the party, denouncing a culture of witch hunts.
Despite initial disruptions, the conference continued, with Sultana apologizing for organizational missteps. A new leadership structure, with a committee of ordinary members leading until 2027, was approved by members. The conference concluded with the announcement of the party’s official name, “Your Party,” chosen through a member vote.
Corbyn reiterated the party’s principles and commitment to unity, underscoring the significant impact their actions could have nationwide. The party’s shift towards a novel leadership model signals a departure from traditional Westminster practices, highlighting a new era for Your Party.
