Miyu Yamashita secured a victory in her debut visit to Canada, claiming the CPKC Women’s Open title in Edmonton. The 25-year-old Japanese golfer notched her fourth LPGA Tour win and second of the year with an impressive performance at the Royal Mayfair Golf Club. Yamashita finished 23 under after shooting a 4-under-par 66 in the final round of the $2.75-million US tournament.
Leading by six strokes going into the last day, Yamashita extended her lead to nine strokes over compatriot Yuri Yoshida, who finished at 14 under. Expressing her joy, Yamashita mentioned her happiness in winning in Canada and the support she received from the fans throughout the week.
Standing at four-foot-11, Yamashita previously won the Meijer LPGA Classic in June in Michigan, along with victories at the Women’s British Open and Maybank Championship in 2025, earning her the rookie of the year title. She became the fastest Japanese player to reach four LPGA wins, tying the all-time lowest four-day score on the LPGA Tour with 257 in Edmonton.
In other results, Anna Huang from Vancouver ended as the top Canadian, tied for fourth with a 5-under 65, finishing at 12 under par. Calgary’s Aphrodite Deng tied for seventh at 11 under, claiming the low amateur spot for the second consecutive year. Two-time winner Brooke Henderson from Smiths Falls, Ont., finished tied for 13th at 7 under par.
Huang, a 17-year-old, claimed her fourth European Tour win in August and made the cut at the CPKC Women’s Open. She expressed her delight in playing in front of home crowds and gaining valuable experience during the tournament. Both Huang and Deng’s top-10 finishes grant them entry into the LPGA’s FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Mass.
Reflecting on her performance, Huang emphasized the importance of simplicity in golf, stating that hitting fairways and greens always leads to a good day on the course. World No. 1 Nelly Korda shot 69 to finish 1 under for the tournament. Henderson faced challenges navigating the rough throughout the event, affecting her chances to contend for the title.
Despite the rough patches, Henderson remained positive and looked forward to the upcoming tournaments to showcase her improved ball striking skills and putting abilities. Young amateurs like Michelle Xing and Savannah Grewal also participated in the event, with Xing finishing 3 under and Grewal and Clairey Lin ending at 3 over. The 2027 CPKC Women’s Open is set to take place at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau, Que.
