As we approach the New Year’s Eve celebrations, millions of people are gearing up to send their heartfelt wishes for 2026 to their friends and family. This festive period is known to be exceptionally busy for messaging platforms, with WhatsApp revealing that December 31 consistently stands out as its busiest night of the year.
WhatsApp stated, “New Year’s is our busiest day, setting new records each year for messaging and calling activity among users.” While the platform typically handles over 100 billion messages and 2 billion calls daily, the New Year’s period always surpasses these figures.
To enhance the messaging experience for users during the celebrations, WhatsApp has introduced several new features. These include a 2026 sticker pack for sharing the joy of the upcoming year, video call effects such as fireworks and confetti animations, animated confetti reactions for messages, and animated stickers for Status updates.
In addition to these updates, WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is offering useful tips for users planning New Year’s activities through the app. Suggestions include creating event reminders, using polls to decide on food and activities, sharing live locations for easy navigation, and sending video and voice notes to capture memorable moments for absent friends.
