Virgin Media has recently slashed the price of its fastest broadband offering to a new low. The company has launched an unexpected sale, reducing the cost of its high-speed Gig1 Fibre Broadband by over £70.

The Gig1 plan boasts speeds of up to 1,130Mbps and is typically priced at £29.99 per month. However, it is now available for just £26.99 per month, resulting in a total savings of £72 over the 24-month contract period, equivalent to approximately 87p per day.

Virgin has highlighted that this discounted rate represents the ‘lowest ever price’ for its Gig1 service. With these blazing-fast speeds, users can download a feature-length HD film in under 30 seconds and have a 50GB PS5 game ready to play in less than seven minutes.

While households with 70Mbps speeds may experience longer download times for the same game, Virgin’s Gig1 broadband ensures smooth streaming, online gaming, and faster downloads. The reduced £26.99 rate will see two price increases during the minimum contract term, reaching £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028.

It is important to note that the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available in all UK locations, so prospective customers are advised to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.

When compared to competitors like Sky, Virgin’s £26.99 Gig1 deal offers a compelling option. Despite Sky reducing its comparable 900Mbps plan to £28, Virgin’s offering remains more affordable and faster.

In contrast, BT’s 900Mbps connection comes at a higher price of £37.99. Consumers are encouraged to explore alternative network providers, including emerging alt-nets, which often provide competitive pricing compared to major brands.

For instance, Community Fibre currently offers 1Gbps speeds for £25 per month, with the first three months free and fixed prices throughout the contract. However, this provider’s services are limited to London and select south-east areas.

Not everyone requires ultra-fast speeds of around 1Gbps, so individuals should assess their specific needs before committing to a lengthy broadband contract. Factors such as household size, online activities, and streaming habits should be considered when selecting an appropriate speed plan.

Choosing Virgin’s 1Gbps fibre broadband is akin to having a high-speed motorway directly into your home, ensuring smooth and efficient online experiences for various activities.
