The Met Office has advised residents in 51 UK areas to get ready for potential flooding as heavy rains are predicted over the weekend. The weather agency issued a yellow rain warning for various regions, anticipating flooding, road spray, and possible disruptions to travel.
The warning will be in effect from 9 am on Saturday until 6 am the following day, covering multiple local authority areas. Residents in the warned regions are urged to assess their flood risk, create a flood plan, and assemble an emergency flood kit as precautionary measures.
Additionally, the Met Office recommends checking road conditions, public transportation schedules, and preparing for power outages by gathering essentials like torches, batteries, and a phone power pack. Despite Friday’s high temperatures, a return to summery conditions is not expected to persist through the weekend, according to forecasters.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tom Crabtree stated that widespread rainfall of 20-30 mm is anticipated, with localized areas potentially experiencing 60-80 mm in a short period. Strong winds and possible thunderstorms are expected to accompany the rain, particularly in southwest England, western Wales, and parts of the northeast.
The situation is being closely monitored, and further warnings may be issued as needed. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts in the upcoming days to prepare for the evolving conditions.
