Britain’s pubs and restaurants play a vital role in our communities. Facing challenges from escalating energy costs linked to volatile fossil fuel markets, businesses have been struggling. The ongoing situation in the Middle East highlights the need for a shift to clean, homegrown energy sources for stability. The government is taking steps to transition to renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and nuclear power to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower bills.

To aid hospitality businesses affected by the energy cost crisis, a new energy-saving scheme is being introduced. This initiative will provide tailored plans to over 525 pubs, restaurants, and hotels through a digital tool to help them monitor and decrease their energy consumption and emissions. The scheme has already proven successful, with some businesses achieving significant reductions in energy use and savings on bills.

For instance, a pub in Caterham saved over £1,500 annually by cutting overnight energy use by 66%, while a pub in Bromley is saving £48 weekly, boosting yearly profits. Besides cost savings, the scheme contributes to reducing carbon emissions, showcasing the compatibility of sustainability with business success.

Empowering owners to manage energy use effectively not only eases financial burdens but also allows them to focus on customer service and business growth. Thriving small businesses benefit communities by creating jobs and maintaining social hubs like local pubs and restaurants. The government’s commitment to supporting the hospitality sector includes measures such as business rate cuts and funding support, aligning with its clean energy mission to safeguard businesses, families, and communities nationwide.
